HealthCare.Gov Needs Five Million Code Lines Rewritten

Obamacare’s online exchanges have been riddled with problems since they came online three weeks ago, and those issues may continue for at least the next few weeks. Contractors said fixing the problems by the November 1 deadline set by the administration would be “unrealistic,” according to the New York Times.

From the sluggish websites to garbled enrollment information, the flaws require the extensive rewriting of code: “One specialist said that as many as five million lines of software code may need to be rewritten before the Web site runs properly,” the Times reports — that’s out of a total of approximately 500 million lines of code, according to another expert.

Others experts warned that some of the website’s problems are yet to come. One technical specialist involved in the repair effort said, “The account creation and registration problems are masking the problems that will happen later.”

I heard on the radio today, the Canadian company they used was fired by the Canadian government when they botched their $40M project, so the obama admin hires them to design their $400+M project.
Yeah that'll work out well.
I wonder what the kickbacks were.

Obama asks and gets America's best to help out with the Obamacare website.

Republicans ask for help and the get the crazy dude who lost $400 million and probably killed his neighbor.

That's a load of shit. It's a bailout. Are they going to volunteer those hours? Are those hours going to be tax deductible? Or are we paying for it? Does this count as a campaign contribution?

In either event, shady math to figure out how you're going to pay America's best. America's best is worth tens of thousands of dollars PER HOUR. You really think they'll do this pro bono? And should they be allowed to?

3 years was more than enough time to have developed, alpha and beta tested then went into production pilots before launch date. It just comes down to the fact that they simply didn't give a **** if it worked or not.
Notice how Obama casually talks about increasing call support staff.

This isn't the ****ing Easter Seals marathon. Those people are getting paid to hear people complain. The technicians who are getting paid to fix this? Those people are getting paid to fix the problem. Those consultants who have to fix this mess? They're getting paid an astronomical amount of money to consult on this.

I'm sure these were all factored in the CBO budget. I'm also sure that Obama is going to miss the revenue target and, if he does, that clearly was not in the budget either.

Did the facebook founders get paid to set up the Obama website/database? Teach them to use social media?

I have no idea whats "legal" or not. I'm sure whatever is happening has been run by lawyers.

I've worked with some of the best coders in the world. The absolute best. They don't even touch their paychecks. Money is not important to them. Some people are motivated by more than the pursuit of money.

The way he is controlling the media in almost tyrannical ways....

And I don't trust for a second that he'll be open and transparent about the insane amount of money we've over-spent to fix this.

For a guy so tough on creative accounting, he damn well better be honest about what is being spent on this. Because it's going to be a shitload.

You do realize the ethics of this, right? Hiring workers pro bono to do free labor, when there are plenty of eager unemployed workers who would do that job for a fee? You can't let the public sector bail them out by applying different standards than the private sector.

You seem to have a lot of anger towards anything Obama. What are you going to do when another Democrat is in the White House in 2016?
