Should Marijuana be Legalized?

I'm curious as to what the consensus among posters here is.

Should marijuana be made legal?

Some interesting stats regarding political parties and age brackets;

48 out of 53 for legalization. I'd say this result speaks for itself.

Whether you personally partake or not, it is obvious that the effects of weed are no worse than those of alcohol, and that enforcing laws against it have been an abyssmal failure.

Prohibition always fails.

Just how out of touch can a person really be?

Freaking loon.

Iím good with other drugs remaining prohibited though. Like meth, you can throw coke, heroin and whatever that krokodil shit is on that list too.

You can make over 50,000 products from the hemp plant... oh, and you can smoke the flower on some strains of it. So, it's evil.

The reason it's illegal is lobbyists of industries that hemp would effect. The Paper, Alcohol, Pharmaceutical, Cotton, and Oil lobbyists. Those are some powerful lobbyists there.

It's stronger and way easier to get. They are vaporizing it now too making it impossible to stop. Hell you can smoke it in a hospital now or sitting watching a Lakers game in Staples. This battle is lost. IMO you have to be a complete retard to believe in continued enforcement in this area.

What it shows is who our politicians serve and it's certainly their constituency.

The irony of the situation is that in the '30s when they made pot illegal a lot of Hispanics went back south across the border. They were kind of run out of the country as undesirables. Now we have a massive illegal immigrant problem with many of those illegals involved in smuggling pot, coke and meth across the border as part of a giant black market.

Amen to that. I can't stand drunks. They're typically loud, obnoxious and smell ****ing terrible. Stoners typically sit in the corner and stfu.

Drunks are sloppy, embarrassing and you can't reason or even talk to them.

I don't buy that. It's illegal because traditional people (nearly all of them with children either young or grown) don't think it's acceptable. It's that simple. It seems to be changing but the public's nervousness about Pot is why it's illegal, not corporations.

We (and I) did call it that on Sunday actually, funny you mentioned it. I really don't want to be around Pot smoke because I don't want to get high, hopefully the users understand I have rights too. (They didn't seem to give much of a shit about the rest of us)

As long as it is treated like cigarettes in that it isn't just allowed any old place then it wouldn't bother me. When we have poker at my house I make any of the smokers go out to the end of the driveway, whether they are smoking cigarettes or pot because I don't care to be around it (as well some other players) and I certainly don't want the smells in my house.

I'm reminded of a story about Richard Nixon's aide, who asked him one time what the big deal was with pot. Probably butchering the story but as their plane left New York Nixon pointed down to all the homes on Long Island and said: "You may not care and i may not care, but every one of those families cares."

Something like that.

Except that the people 'down there' don't care. Unless they are old Republicans.
