Delay: Obama set to unsheath and hand Ted Cruz the ACA Mandate Sword

The Obama administration will delay enforcement of the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance mandate, extending how long Americans may go uninsured before facing a penalty under the law, MarketWatch has learned.

I'm beginning to wonder if delaying the mandate is a bad idea if one wants to defeat the Democrats in the next congressional elections?

I'd rather take a loss that moves the party in our direction than a win that doesn't. Frankly, I think that's what we just saw this past month.

Obama on the other hand... The guy is like the Geico Lizard. He's a great front man who can sell an idea. But clearly implementation is a problem for this guy - whether that be implementation of the pushing of an initiative, or whether it's the actual implementation of the idea in itself.

It works out from a political standpoint though. People can say what they want about Ted Cruz, but Obama is sinking the democrat party worse than Cruz ever could. When hot seat senators are forced to back Obamacare over the Republican's Repeal and Replace plan things are going to get interesting.

This thing is going to melt down, and people are going to go scurrying. The democrat establishment will be stuck pushing Obamacare. The democrat base is going to be pushing for single payer. And the Republicans will be unified behind Repeal and Replace.

Obama might actually have to sign the bill that repeals his signature achievement and replaces it with a Republican plan. Of course, that's going to take ostracizing the surrender caucus who are only looking at the short term political picture, with no eye for the big picture.

But maybe they have a point. Obama is surely to veto such a move. The real question will be whether or not the Republicans can secure a veto proof majority. That will depend on two things: what gains conservatives can make in 2014, and just how bad this rollout turns out to be. I'm less worried about the second than the first. Again, I'll be happy to take a loss that moves the country in our direction than sit back "winning" and not moving anything.
MORE AWESOME PREDICTIONS BRO

Considering your track record, we can be assured that this will be wrong as well.

Agree. I'm quite thankful that he's a bumbling fool. The downside is that it highlights how many people we have in our country who can support a bumbling fool because they want more socialism.

I'm not so thrilled about his destructive foreign policy though. It's going to take a while to recover from the damage he's doing.

Great post, as usual.

Question though--I'm familiar with "Repeal" but not so much with "Replace." What does the proposed "Replace" look like?

Well, unfortunately he does have some people around who do know how to ram things like Obamacare down people's throats through parliamentary tricks, backroom deals, plain lying, all the Congressional tools of the trade.

And unfortunately demographic s in the country have changed to the point where job performance doesn't matter in elections anymore, only the perceived ability of the candidate to deliver the voter money from someone else's pocket.

Accountability has essentially been removed from the process, and 2012 I think was the thesis for that.

What we see here are politicians who are all behaving like they are perfectly safe and secure no matter what because of the makeup of their districts, name recognition, race, party affiliation, etc., whatever renders that person bulletproof.

The only people who are accountable are appointees, ironically. They occasionally burn for embarrassing the party men up the chain from them.

For example, Kathleen Seblojevich may end up ending her career by her handling of the Obamacare rollout but if you had another presidential election today, everyone who voted for Obama would vote for him again. "He may be a shitty president but he's my shitty president"

That's the worrying thing about the Obama age, not economic suffering or government annexing parts of the economy. It's identity politics replacing all else.

Yup! The NeoCons are going beserk because Americans stopped us going into Syria by lighting up the switchboards not to. Seems Ron Paul's ideas did have influence. Even their allies the Saudis are pissed. Not to mention their covert ally Bibi. At least Obama listened to the people on this. It's the Bush FP that was destructive but parts of Obama's like his drone war creating another generation of jihadist terrorists and bombing of Libya were just like that of Bush.
