Why are you a republican or democrat (or independent)?

Just our of curiousity.

Is it because that's how you were raised and strictly vote along the party lines no matter what? Are you an intelligent voter that pays attention to what's happening with this country?

I vote republican because they stand for family values, economy growth, small businesses growth which is essential for the economy, and they respect the protected right of religion and right to bear arms. I also believe in states rights over big government.

What do democrats vote democrat for? Free phones, free handouts, rights to kill babies, racism, big brother controlling every facet of your life? Please explain your intentions democrats?

Because the democratic party that was once respected is no longer the democratic party. Democrats from 50 years ago would be republican.

Oh, I am independent but only remain registered R for nominating purposes. We don't have an open primary here.

I started off as a conservative hawk before 9/11. After 9/11 and the patriot act I began to question just how effective and smart the government really is at keeping us safe. The politicians didn't realize that the paradigm had shifted as how passengers react to hijackings. No more would passengers be passive since safety was no longer assured in a hijacking.

The mess of the Iraq war further cemented my belief that government can't really do anything competently even at local levels. Thank you Radley Balko for that. I basically turned into a minarchist libertarian.

I started out a democrat. Then, thanks to my congressman and the actions of both parties became a libertarian.

Resigned from the Republican Party because the party is gutless. I tried to unregister entirely, but I wasn't allowed.

I'm an Independent. I'm not really interested in pledging blind allegiance to either party because in my opinion both parties are completely flawed on some issues.

I have a real problem with the Democratic party's insistence upon jamming Obamacare down our throats. That's my major problem with Democrats at the moment.

I have an equally big problem with the Republican party's obsession with cutting taxes ALL OF THE FREAKING TIME, especially in the state of Kansas where Sam Brownback is hell-bent on eliminating state income taxes completely. I also have a huge problem with the number of Republicans who insist that creationism is a science that must be taught in science classes in public schools.

Both parties have their share of good people, and both parties have their share of idiots and crooks. It astounds me that ANYONE can vote a straight ticket for either party. I always vote for who I think is the best candidate, regardless of party.

Perhaps this is why I'm an equal opportunity mocker and critic. I love to mock Killer Clown, Stevie Ray and Chris666 at times, while at other times I love to move Direckshun and Cosmo.

Just to clarify my stance. While I'm republican, I think 99% of our government is complete and utter trash. I can't stand our polititians.

My father's family were/are all conservative R's, my mother's family were/are all liberal D's. I got to see how stupid both sides are. I'm an independent. Currently registered Libertarian and have been for more than a decade.

I think the practice of abortion is absolutely disgusting. I don't approve of late-term abortions. Early-term abortions... I think that's disgusting too, but understand it in instances of rape and incest. I also am not naive enough to believe that abortions won't happen just because they're made illegal, often times in even more disgusting ways. I also struggle with whether this is something that government should be legislating -- I don't think it's necessarily my business to decide. Ultimately, I think this is a states rights decision.

Birth control is a different issue. I fully support it and believe that this is one of those things where a small cost for prevention goes a really, really long way to controlling health care costs.
