Why are you a republican or democrat (or independent)?

Just our of curiousity.

Is it because that's how you were raised and strictly vote along the party lines no matter what? Are you an intelligent voter that pays attention to what's happening with this country?

I vote republican because they stand for family values, economy growth, small businesses growth which is essential for the economy, and they respect the protected right of religion and right to bear arms. I also believe in states rights over big government.

What do democrats vote democrat for? Free phones, free handouts, rights to kill babies, racism, big brother controlling every facet of your life? Please explain your intentions democrats?

Because the democratic party that was once respected is no longer the democratic party. Democrats from 50 years ago would be republican.

Was a Republican. Didn't like Carter (at the time), loved Reagan (at the time). Now, I've grown to respect Carter more, and Reagan a little less, but I would take either of them over this current crop of Republicans.

Voted Republican in every election up to and including John McCain in the primaries versus GWB. Was still a registered Reb. until Romney declared his disdain for government union employees, and then I was like, "Why do I support a party that hates me?"

Truth is, I probably stopped being a Republican with the first election of GWB, just didn't make it official until four years later.

Always thought the Dems were disorganized a too much of a hodgepodge and that really hasn't changed much, though, I think they are moving more towards what Rebs used to be when I initially joined them. It always cracks me up a bit when people think of the Dems as these tree-hugging extreme left wing people. Sure, they're there, but they have so little influence, and are basically used like the Rebs use social conservatives (yeah, sure, we care about your issues, vote for us!).

The Dems are the lesser of two evils in my opinion. At least they give some lip service to working Americans. The Rebs have completely sold out into a corporate party. **** corporations as people, they certainly don't care about ****ing you.

So little influence that Pelosi, and Reid could usher Obamacare through Congress--without even knowing what was in it? Then we have Reid going to bat for Obamacare regularly after that. Seems like that part of the D party is highly influential these days. That includes Obama.

Eh, someone actually used the phrase "baited breath" in another thread. That's not a spelling error; that's a complete misunderstanding of what the phrase actually means.

I figure if you want to (a.) harness the power of the free market, and (b.) ensure that those who struggle in that market are provided for, then between the two major parties the DNP is the only party willing to talk to you.

Grew up Republican with Strong Libertarian leanings. Got Fed up with The Republicans in W’s first term and Joined the Libertarian Party. I live in a very Red sate where things are decided in the Primaries so a while back there was someone I wanted to Vote against so re registered as a Republican just to Vote against him. Maddeningly he was the only one on the ballot. I have been dissatisfied with the two major party candidates for President in the last 3 elections and have voted 3rd party.

When you get away from the Parties and talk to the people I would say that in 85-90% of the issues the left and right want the same end result, they just believe a different approach will achieve it. The two major Parties have done a masterful job of dividing the people and blaming the other side to obscure how poorly they both have served the people. This has been fishingrod’s Thanksgiving Kumbaya message. Now let’s all get back to insulting each others Mothers.
