4 things about that post.

1. That was/is a great show.
2. Archie definitely reminds me of a lot of people on here. So out of touch it is comedy.
3. Sally Struthers was a cutie back in the day.
4. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I just finished making/prepping the "night before" dishes. Looking forward to putting everything together tomorrow with the help of my kids.

Must one believe in a god to give thanks? It doesn't seem to be the case. I could thank my parents for giving me a safe and supportive upbringing. I could thank my family for loving me. I could thank my teachers and the educational system of the US for my education. I could thank my employer for satisfying and rewarding work. I could reflect on the overall fortunate situation to be born in this place and time with a good set of genes in comparison with the other much less favorable circumstances. I could use my time, talents, and treasures in service to those less fortunate as an expression of my thanks. A religious outlook doesn't seem to be necessary to fully engage in this good holiday.

It doesn't have to be a religious holiday at all. It's healthy to cultivate a thankful attitude when we have so many things to be thankful for, as you mentioned.

No, you don't. You can simply accept what is.

Look at what Chris616's positivity crusade has produced. A nice warm happy thanksgiving wish from gblowfish. What a wonderful website we have here. Happy thanksgiving to you too, gblowfish. And smiles all around.

Why not direct your gratitude toward your circumstance? Why could that not be a higher power for a 12 stepper? Could they not acknowledge that their circumstance was so fortunate so as to impose an obligation not to waste it on drugs or booze? Consider the odds of one out of billions of sperm mating with one of thousands of eggs to produce a unique individual that is me? Isn't the mere gift of existence enough of a wonder to feel a debt and obligation to it?

There isn't anything for me to wiggle out of. That's one of the keys to understanding my comments that you haven't gotten yet. In our conversations, you are the only one bound by the structure that you perceive because you have created it. It exists in your mind. It doesn't exist in mine.

Yes it is. Also by acknowledging your worth and the sacred nature of your life you can, through empathy, appreciate and hold sacred the lives of others.
