we're back to 'particular faith/denomination"..when you say universally human....I say God created man in HIS image.

it's funny you mention your dog...if you love/hated your dog, the appropiate response from those actions would present themselves...just like a newborn child, you HAVE to love FIRST before you ever dream of receiving love in return.

Yeah, that's it. The English language is to blame.

My theory is that Chris616's positivity is only indirectly responsible for those losses because of all the negativity it has drawn in response. We seem to have a whole herd of demons and minor devils around here who have been keeping this franchise down for the past several years and I'm thankful that Chris616 has come along to expose them.

So let me tell you what I'm thankful for this year - my cousin Julie took a shotgun blast to the face on Monday, and she'll be fine. Here, let me explain.

She and her husband and three kids were driving from Iowa, where they live, to New York, where my aunt and uncle live. As they were driving through the outskirts of Toledo, there was a Youth Hunting Day outing going on somewhere off to the side, and one of the slugs from some kid's shotgun came in through the window and hit her in the jaw. The Toledo hospital people put it back together and she's going to have her jaw wired shut for something like six weeks, but that's all. She'll be fine.

Now, besides the "What are the odds" aspect of this, here's the truly amazing part: The slug could have done a lot more damage than it did. Obviously, it could have hit a little bit below (her neck) or a little bit above (her temple). It was at extreme range and had lost some speed, and the window slowed it down a little. What they said made the difference, though, was her hair. Yes, that's right, when they dug out the slug, some of her hair was between it and her jaw. She's a short, thin, 47-year-old academic, but she has a full head of thick, long hair, to which you can now apparently add the adjective 'bulletproof'.

So she spent a day in the Toledo hospital, and now they're back in Iowa. She's recovering just fine, and in the end all she'll have left over from this is what I imagine will be a fairly badass chin scar. Naturally, now that we know she's okay, the rest of the cousins and I have made all of the requisite twisted-humor jokes - checking to see if Dick Cheney was in town, whether the 'outskirts of Toledo' actually was downtown Detroit, whether she's secretly Asgardian, and so on - but mostly we're all just happy she's okay.

So, yeah, right at Thanksgiving, and just before the start of the holiday season, my cousin took a shotgun slug to the face and survived. If that's not something to be thankful for, I don't know what is.

Happy Thanksgiving, brothers and sisters.

Wow. Talk about bad luck. Very sorry to hear that. Or like the stance you've taken, very good luck. Hope the rest of the weekend works out better for you and your family.

Thankful she will be alright and looking at it from the point of view that it could have been much worse then what it was.

Always things in our life to be thankful for.

So his positivity has still resulted in a net gain of negativity. Same difference. This place needs some high-dose chemotherapy to rid ourselves of that cancer.
