Are you proud of your country

and if so why?

No political agenda here (I swear).

FTR, I am by no means saying I am not.

For some reason this reminds me of the first speech Michelle Obama made after Obama was elected President. She said "FOR THE FIRST TIME I'm proud of this country".

Little did I know that things would go downhill from THAT.

That quote blew my mind the first time I read it.

My first thought was,"Uh-Oh".

I am. I believe in the values of individual liberty and freedom that are the underpinnings of the U.S. Constitution. I swore an oath to defend that constitution and try to keep it. I have administered that oath to others hundreds of times. Individual freedoms " of " and rights " to" (speech religion, arms, etc) far surpass government imposed attempts at freedoms "from" ( poverty, crime, poor health). But this requires walking the walk and means some will use their free will to self destruct and for negative purpose while others will rise and prosper. Many trhough no fault of ther own either way. The worst question I used to get and one I ask is "what have you done for your country today?" The answer for me many times was not enough. Other days, I knew I did my best.

I'm very glad to be an American and happy when we lead the world in science or some other positive category.

I'm proud of what the principles the country was built on. However, there are a lot of times where I feel like it's more of a charade than anything.

That is why I ask and hated being asked, what had I done for my country today? It is personal and up to each of us that swore an oath to improve it. But it is still our right not to participate and bitch at those that swore oaths as Americans. Great country or what? We can declare personal victory either way and be right under our constitution.

It's still the best place to live and has achieved more than any civilization in human history. But there's no way to escape the feeling that America is in decline.

Having visited several parts of the World, I am very proud of our country. I would not want to live anywhere else.

I think in the time of need we are some of the most generous people. We always send support financially and in man power.

We do have our warts and can be ugly Americans at times. We have some misguided notions at times, but I think overall we are a pretty damn good country.

I am proud of what our country has done for the world overall and achievements of many of those who called this nation home. I proud of the fact that the is more potential for anyone to achieve success and have an opportunity for upward mobility than in any other culture or nation ever seen before. I am proud that this nation is far more welcoming to those from other nations than almost any other nation.

I am not proud of the gridlock in Washington and the extreme idealism that has overrun government. I am not proud of loopholes run amok. Everything is offensive these days to someone and therefore can't be allowed. There are too many "victims" nowadays and personal accountability seems to have been thrown out the window. I am not proud of how everything is a race issue and how a rich kid can get away with murder because he has a case of "affluenza". I am not proud of how the success of previous generations has created a generation who feels entitled to what they have not earned. I am not proud that our K-12 education system is getting progressively worse.

Overall I still think this is the greatest country the world has ever seen, but if we do not change some of our ways I don't know how we can sustain this forever.

I'm not proud of whiny bitches who demand a free ride. I'm also not proud of how large and influential our single women demo has become since they can't even take care of themselves either

Yes, we've accomplished a lot of great things in this country. Our constitution was revolutionary, our peaceful government transitions over 200+ years is extraordinary, and our benevolent world leadership since WWII is unprecedented. I'm even confident that we can overcome Obama.

Another thing I'm proud of is the way the US has enabled Canada to be such a pleasant country with no real defense worries, plenty of bleed-over culture and some cheap, piggy back opportunities like prescription drugs. Sorry we couldn't do anything about the weather yet.

I am proud of the people of the country. Anybody who wants to work and make a living I have no problem with and would gladly welcome them into this country. The people here are remarkably tolerant compared to almost any other part of the world.

Now, the government on the other hand is pretty much a national embarassment for at least the last 50 years. Probably longer.
