What Would RealisticallyHappen If a Nuke Was Detonated?

Ok, so serious question to get your opinions.

What would happen, in your opinion, if a country detonated a nuke against another country? I’m sure it might depend on who’s involved, but let’s say Iran drops one on Israel; Pakistan, or India etc.

Or, if somehow a small one was detonated by terrorists inside our own country, Canada, or the UK?

What would the fallout (see what I did there) be?

It depends on yield, detonation type and prevailing winds. If, for example, a 50 kt physics package was air-bursted over Tel Aviv, it would likely kill 100,000 within a few days.

What made Chernobyl so devastating; at least in comparison to a nuke being dropped etc?

Wow..

Burns visible on a woman in Hiroshima during the blast. Darker colors of her kimono at the time of detonation correspond to clearly visible burns on the skin which touched parts of the garment exposed to thermal radiation. Since kimonos are not form-fitting attire, some parts not directly touching her skin are visible as breaks in the pattern, and the tighter-fitting areas approaching the waistline have a much more well-defined pattern.
That damage was caused by the flash (heat) of the detonation. There wasn't such a detonation at Chernobyl.

Fukushima wasn't built by GE. The reactor design they use is a GE design, however.

Yes, but very few have them. Megaton physics packages are multi-stage.

Sorry. Commonly known as "Hydrogen Bombs." The basic design uses a fission reaction (which is what Little Boy was) to trigger a fusion reaction. Very nasty and VERY hard to build, thankfully.

Modern nukes will wipe out a huge area. I'd rather get vaporized near the epicenter than take my chances out on the fringe.

Actually, "modern nukes" are a lot more efficient than what we dropped on Japan. We even have "dial-a-yield" nukes now. User-selectable yields. At least we used to.
