War on Xmas extends to new levels of Atheist hatred

I love the usual christian comment of obviously they werent christians because true christians would never do things like that. You know that sounds familiar, who else says that?

Hmmm...

Maybe another religious group? Religion of peace or something...

Why is it so hard to believe? Well, mainly because over 2000 years or so there hasn't been one single shred of proof for the existence of any religious deity. In that time, our understanding of the universe and everything outside of religion has expanded exponentially. The things we once had no explanation for and attributed to God(s), are now known to us.

Religion though, hasn't changed much. If anything it has transgressed. As illustrated by those troublesome verses of the Bible so cruel and unusual that they must be ignored by those trying to justify their religion. Or your claim that it's been corrupted over time.

It's not because the message has been drastically changed or corrupted. It's simply because the story's flaws have become exposed over time. Because it relied on ignorance of things which are now able to be known. Ignorance which now cannot be logically explained away, requiring you to make the excuse that it must be corrupted because it no longer makes logical sense.

Parts of your belief structure are so cruel and illogical, that many people of the faith have to create different softer interpretations just to justify it, or completely ignore those parts altogether. Like we're not really supposed to stone women to death who lie about being virgins when they marry. And we can't actually enslave other people anymore.

It was the lack of consistency that drove me away.
I had been a believer most of my life. My belief system had answers for most of Fish's objections. The thing that most undermined my faith was the following considering the source of the Bible. It is either the divinely inspired Word or God, or the religious writings of ancient peoples who were trying to make sense of the world and their interactions with other people.

If it is the divinely inspired Word of God it has a great relevance on my life. If not, then it seems pretty harmful to live my life according to a religious system that has the Bible as its foundation. I could spend what limited time I have on this earth in more meaningful and productive ways.

So humans have been around much longer than the Bible has. Did God have nothing to say to humans for the first 95% of the time they have lived on this earth? What became of their souls? My religious system taught original sin, that seems to be tied to a historical event that occurred in the Garden of Eden. But the first 11 chapters of Genesis don't seem to mesh with historical and scientific reality. They seem closer to a myth than actual history. But if the first 11 chapters of Genesis are ahistorical, what about the rest of the Bible? Why should I believe in some supernatural events recorded in the Bible but not others? I've never witnessed a bonafide supernatural event.

When I think of all these questions that don't really have good answers, I'm drawn to the strong conclusion that the Bible is a collection of religious writings of ancient people that were trying to make sense of the world during their time in history. There are some good teachings in the Bible about how to interact with other humans, but all of the supernatural trappings seem unnecessary and probably counterproductive at least for me, and likely for others as well.

This will warm the hearts of the godless.

They thought it was a kind holiday gesture, but dozens of Prosper students didn’t get to deliver the Christmas cards they made for local veterans because of a VA policy against specific religious cards and phrasing.

The cards are still in North Texas, and the writers are disappointed their thank you’s won’t be seen by the people they were intended for.

“I’m hoping that it might make their day because their family might live far away, and they might not have somebody to celebrate Christmas with and I’d like them to know they’ve not been forgotten and somebody wanted to say thank you,” said fourth grader Gracie Brown.

Gracie and her brother, Luke, put a lot of thought and effort into their Christmas cards.

“It includes ‘Merry Christmas,’ and when you open it up, it says ‘Thank you for your service’ and the American flag,” said Luke.

Fifty-two students at Grace Academy in Prosper spent Friday making the cards they planned to hand deliver to bedridden veterans at the VA hospital in Dallas Monday morning.

When Gracie and Luke’s mom, Andrea, found out they wouldn’t be able to, she was outraged.

“This wasn’t the country I grew up in, when you couldn’t say ‘Merry Christmas,’ you couldn’t say ‘God bless you’ or reference any scripture,” she said.

The cards were the idea of Susan Chapman, a math teacher at Grace Academy. She’s married to a veteran and volunteers with the American Legion and other veterans’ organizations.

“It really didn’t occur to me there would be a problem with distributing Christmas cards,” said Chapman.

no, according to God...Children don't go to hell.

Our fault? no, SIN"S fault..the wages of sin is death.

Cruel? hardly..you literally have to crawl over Jesus to get to hell. iI didn't figure it out.... God revealed it to me..and only because I was seeking...you think it comes from me?..it doesn't.

stone women to death. yup, back in those times. absolutely...today, what happens to women in China? in the middle east? slavery still exists today...yet those don'tg bother you as much as something from 2000 years ago.

maybe you should ask yourself why someone from 2000 years ago still intimidates you. something you don't believe in still INTIMIDATES you...you want to blame God for condemning sin, when in reality, you are condemning yourself.

In spite of failing again to bring all of CP together into any or all of our Churches, it is good to be able to say Merry Christmas and may the blessings that we feel come to all in the next year and that we all discover and embrace the love of our savior.

It's incorrect however. A true patriot would know that God has zero to do with our country our it's government. He's only correct if you ignore everything pre 1954.

That's silly. There is literally nothing religious about Christmas except for the name implying the mass of Christ, and the actual act of attending Christ's mass. If you don't do those things, I cannot think of a single thing about Christmas that is religious. Maybe gaudy manager and angel decorations but that's it. This are a choice though.

I celebrate Christmas, and I know that every Christmas traditions is either pagan, Roman, or stolen from other cultures. God is incredibly absent in the celebration of the holiday.

I'm not even sure the star all your pagan tree doesn't represent the winter solstice. Might have to look into that.

Pagan is a generic term created by hebrews for all polytheistic religions. It's akin to calling someone a heathen. Therefore the roman religion IS paganism. Paganism isn't actually a religion. It's more of a label born from religious intolerance.

And yes... decorating trees and painting eggs is for Pagans.
