Question for conservatives on this forum

Do you like the new pope?

And/or

What do you think of the new pope?

I would go into Pitt Gorilla's thread and look, but this is an easier way to satisfy my curiosity in answer to the question.

The idea that people can achieve righteousness while being hateful of their neighbor is thinking that is consistent with the Old Testament, not the new. The Old Testament establishes God as an entity who enforces justice. The New Testament teaches that he who is without sin cast the first stone. The idea of loving a neighbor even if they practice things you don't agree with is what the Pope is pushing at.

There was a sinless person there, but He didn't cast a stone.

The Old is just as valid as the New. However, the context of what is read in both needs to be understood. Some commands are given for a specific place and time, such as a key point in Jewish history. Some such as the Jewish dietary restrictions were in effect for a time but are not any longer. Some were levitical law that was related to the temple and priests. Context is important.

this is a point that most "christians" don't even understand, let alone the athiests and others here.
the Mosaic Covenant aka "The Law" was between God and Jews for a specific period of time, which has passed.

And that is the point I've been stressing.

And then you come in here questioning that man can't be redeemed? That's new testament 101. And people in here come in here and try to refute jesus' preaching about forgiveness and turning the other cheek?

You're the one having trouble reading from both testaments. You seem to act as if the basics of the new testament don't exist or matter.

If you were stressing that, then you didn't communicate it.

Like I said, the old testament is a guideline for what's right, what's wrong, and righteous judgment. It presents God as a disciplinarian and enforcer of right and wrong.

The new testament presents God as merciful and forgiving, and the preachings of Jesus don't suggest that you can simply break the rules, but it does suggest different ways to treat your fellow man. And it comes at the heels of the idea that man can be redeemed and sins forgiven as a result of jesus' death.

So I don't understand people who claim to believe in both testaments, yet show hatred to their fellow man. That to me is reading one testament and ignoring the other.

stop putting words in my mouth..i said man can't redeem HIMSELF. man is ONLY redeemed through Christ's death on the cross.

the OT over and over again is a testament of CHRIST..He is the last Adam..ever wonder why Mary thought He was the Gardener after His ressurection?

you said the OT is not absolute truth... that is a COMPLETE AND UTTER LIE.

oh and can it about judgement, you spent HOURS, if not DAYS condemning and judging George Zimmerman...your mantra of don't judge ushers in ANTI CHRIST...you concentrate on the Lamb of God, meanwhile the Lion of Judah's return is CLOSE...move on from the milk to the meat.

JUDGEMENT is coming. judgement is a discernment...without judgement and the Law, man's sin is irrelevant.

I don't know where you were seeing a message of hate from previous Popes. You may not have seen as much outreach, but hate? Come on.
