Should Congress extend Unemployment Benefits?

Already 26 months.

In some states, was 72 months.

Where and when do we drawn the line? Or do we?

Poll to follow:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/1...n_4509686.html

ONOLULU (AP) — President Barack Obama has told two senators proposing to extend expiring federal unemployment benefits that he plans to push Congress to do it quickly.

More than 1 million Americans will lose benefits Saturday because Congress didn't extend them. Republican Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada and Democratic Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island have proposed extending the benefits for three months.

Obama called the two senators separately on Friday. The White House says Obama offered his support for their proposal and called it an urgent economic priority. Obama says the abrupt cut-off in cash assistance during the holidays will hurt economic growth and jobs.

Obama economic adviser Gene Sperling says the Senate will hold a vote on the proposal as soon as Congress returns next month.

Having been unemployed recently I voted no. I was unemployed for 18 months and never took unemployment. I ended up taking a job that was about 20% less salary than what I was making previously. There are plenty of jobs out there you may just have to work your way back up again which is what I plan to do.

So Obama is already trying to renege on the budget deal he signed? I'm shocked.

I've never used unemployment in my life. But, the economy is still on shaky ground, the unemployment money goes right back into the economy.

The misconception is that these are lazy bum's who don;t won't to work at McDonalds or for minimum wage. That group is a minority.

I'm in favor of limiting the amount and length you can receive government assistance.

We need to get our priorities straight argument is BS also.

$3 BILLION special tax breaks to the most profitable corporations the world has ever known, big oil. They are making $50 BILLION in profit. This is corporate welfare. The DOD doesn't want the newest fighter jet and tanks. Told Congress no thanks, we are good. Congress said tough, we are buying them, $36 BILLION. Thats just two stupid examples of dumb ass shit the government does on a regular basis.

Did the kid ever get anything worse than a C after this rule was implemented? Not a chance.

I'm not saying it's morally right or wrong, but does it make the child because of it? Think about that for a second.

Why should vets take precedence over other citizens? I respect our soldiers as much as the next guy but I don't see your comparison here. Don't unemployed folks have children to feed?

No.

Unemployment is meant to be short term to allow you to find another job. There are jobs everywhere if you are willing to look, willing to make sacrifices and maybe change career paths. Sure you might have to accept less or do something that you don't want but at least it's a job.

The Government, IE taxpayers, shouldn't be on the hook for people that can't find their perfect job or unwilling to.

And again, can you cite specifically what the "welfare" is they receive?

It'll happen one way or another, so the Republicans ought to get out in front and do it themselves. Don't give Obama anything he can take credit for.
