No shit question

Who here thinks that in tough budget times Congress should have to take a pay cut? I don't think that either party (that aren't Congressmen themselves) would disagree with this. My question then becomes how long are we the people (no pun intended) going to let Congress pick on the small people (military retirees and the poor/disadvantaged) instead of policing themselves.

As it stands now all freshmen Congressmen make $175,000 a year (for what, really? but that is a whole 'nother discussion) and it goes up slightly for those that are tenured. For the sake of this argument if they all dropped their salary from $175,000 to $100,000 (which I think is about all they are worth, sometimes much less) That would save us $40,125,000 a year...not a lot but not chump change either

Just a thought - who thinks we should petition Obama to make this happen?

Obviously it would be symbolic more than anything. Call it performance based pay.

But if congress knew they would face that, what's to keep them from cutting the little guy's pay to avoid the "tough budget times" in the first place?

They are traitors and worthless in my view. They are the ruling class and their subjects are foolish to think they would be reasonable or fair~

Im not sure this is an "interesting subject"

That said and in the spirit of our liberal friends, I think your idea has merit. Would you…the rhetorical you…as in all of you ****ers, send a letter to your congress critters and senators proposing this and in turn post their answers?

What about you Direckshun? Cosmo? Brokeback Brock?

Maybe we should put term limits on them, double their salary, and add a referendum to their local ballot whether or not they deserve any pension or long term health benefits.

Pretty much.

They've faced this pressure many times before and it never amounts to jack... they always weather the storm.
