No shit question

Who here thinks that in tough budget times Congress should have to take a pay cut? I don't think that either party (that aren't Congressmen themselves) would disagree with this. My question then becomes how long are we the people (no pun intended) going to let Congress pick on the small people (military retirees and the poor/disadvantaged) instead of policing themselves.

As it stands now all freshmen Congressmen make $175,000 a year (for what, really? but that is a whole 'nother discussion) and it goes up slightly for those that are tenured. For the sake of this argument if they all dropped their salary from $175,000 to $100,000 (which I think is about all they are worth, sometimes much less) That would save us $40,125,000 a year...not a lot but not chump change either

Just a thought - who thinks we should petition Obama to make this happen?

Most congressman make much more than that per year doing "legal" back door deals with lobbyest. It's such a effin joke. I hate our politicians.

They are mostly lawyers and they'd make far more in the private sector than in Congress. Not sure what the point is here.

I guess I was thinking you were SP. I can't imagine being a cop at my age, maybe when I was younger.

Only enforcement I see out where I live is SP and a Sheriff.

Ahhh, yeah I work for an SO, pull mostly desk duty - occasionally I get to go out and hit the road - but that is usually to respond to a situation that requires some brass or if there is no Sgt on duty

Not sure how effective that would ultimately be. There is not such thing as a poor politician. If they did that then these politicians would find ways to "augment" the loss. Term limits would send more of a message than any cut in pay.

No pensions. There was public outcry during early WWII so it was repealed but brought back after the war. They're supposed to be public "servants" not employees.
