*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

You can't out train a bad diet.

If you binge on carbs you're gonna have a hard time losing weight, because it's so damn easy to eat them to excess. Watch the calories, not the fat.

I had that wrong, almost any kind of shot is better than a beer.

If you're training to get ripped for a muscle pose-off then sure, but to lose weight and feel healthy then I honestly don't give a damn what any single one of you guys think.

And seriously, a low fat diet is BAD? get out... I'm not training to get shredded for a posing contest, I want to feel lean and healthy and strong... carbs help give me the energy to complete my workouts. That's whats pissing me off about this whole deal, too many of you guys think you have the only answer and that just flat out isn't the case.

You can arrive at the same destination a variety of ways,

I didn't say it was bad. I just said that eating fat isn't going to make you fat. A low fat diet is really neither good nor bad. This might work for you, but you'd probably have better success eating a diet balanced in fat, carbs and protein. Fat tends to keep most people fuller longer than carb loading. But as The Fitness Genius Silock has told everyone many times the only thing that really matters is calories in vs calories out.

Also you keep saying stupid shit, like this.

I train to get ripped and part of that is losing weight and let me tell you, Mr. Free, I feel healthier than I EVER have these days.

You did correct me once on female physiology and free weights, and that only betters me so thank you, as for the rest of it I'm not going to listen to a bunch of shit about methods that I know for a fact work.

It works for you, but likely not because of the reasons you think it does.

Also, doing what Silock says could work for you a lot better.

Basically, you don't know what you don't know.

Now eat a bunch of corn flakes and run 10 miles, fatty.

the richness of you calling me fatty isn't lost on me, anyhow goodnight, for those I got bent out of shape with I only wish you could see my methods at work.

God bless to all, do what you do and make it work whatever your story.

You need to go back and read the thread. The only thing I've corrected you on is the lifting part. Have I disputed anything else you've said? At all?

You're just lashing out at anybody and everybody because you're feeling insecure about your positions being attacked.

And you aren't going to find many people being honest with it because it's viewed as cheating as well as being illegal.
I'm not here to argue morals, just going to throw in my perspective from someone who played 4 years DivII football, and continued to play minor league ball for a few more years. Unless you are cream of the crop genetically, you will get smashed. I barely lifted in HS, and could not believe the amount of guys on the team using some sort of PED. Guys your competing against for a spot and scholarship are using, the teams your playing against are using and it was pretty much standard to be on a low dose of test, at the minimum. Competition is the driving force for this, and always will be. I'm sure other people have had similar scenarios, this was just my personal experience.

It's also not illegal, and there are more than a handful of gentlemen on this site that are >30 and on some form of TRT/HRT (doctor supervised supplementation).

Most logical post you've had yet. This is true, different things work for different peoples body type and make up. I think what they were saying about the tried and true for the masses. Unless you've tried some of the other variations of dieting you can't know exactly what's best, you might get better results from a high protein low carb diet.

The only thing that stands true is that a high fat/low carb diet or low fat/higher carb diet works, but not high fat and high carbs!

I tend to eat more fat in a day than I do carbs. Both are less than 27 grams on a typical day, though.
