Here's the number of people who've lost their coverage due to the ACA.

The GOP has been reiterating 5 million Americans will lose their healthcare coverage thanks to Obamacare, based on a figure of 4.7 million.

Turns out, the actual number is 10,000 in 18 counties. In a nation of 300 million+ and over 3,000 counties.

Of the 4.7 million the GOP has claimed will lose coverage, half can renew their 2013 plans thanks to an adjustment made by the Obama administration, another 1.5 million have access to tax credits and Medicaid, and everybody else will have access to an affordable plan where they live -- except for 10,000 people.

That's not good information for those 10,000 people, and adjustments should be made to provide some options for those people. And all behemoths like the ACA have some collateral damage, but again, something should be done to provide these folks options.

But a plan designed to insure 30 million people over ten years and bend the cost curve of health coverage has a much smaller imprint (about 500 times smaller) than many of the detractors of the ACA.

10,000. Those are the people whose cancellation notices truly left them in the cold under the ACA. 99% otherwise have ample options.

You DO NOT have coverage you dolt. You have a mandate to GET coverage. You have an opportunity to GET coverage. You do not HAVE IT without some action on your part.

I don't have the opportunity to drive sober. I must drive sober by penalty of law.

By penalty of law, you are mandated to seek coverage and by penalty of that same law, you cannot be denied (except for the working poor in Republican states).

You have coverage. Unless you avoid it, and you are penalized by the law for doing so.

Ok so I'm going to retract calling you a liar. You are just dumb. I honestly thought you understood the words enough and were just trying to push an agenda. It's clear from this post that you are in fact clueless on what words mean.

Ok I will get sucked in and try to help you out. Just because there is a LAW doesn't change reality. This seems to be a problem libs don't have the ability to comprehend.

So by your drunk driving "logic".. because they is a penalty to drive "not sober". No one drives "not sober". Stellar analogy!

Let's clear up your analogy a bit. Let's say I have a regular cab driver who picks me up from the bar every night. BUT you pass a new law saying that cab driver can no longer drive me home but I can make a different arrangement with any other cabbie and they can't flat out refuse to take me home. Now, as soon as you passed that law I LOST my sober driver. Yes, I can go find a new one but that doesn't change the FACT that I, RIGHT NOW, have no sober driver. I have plenty of opportunity and a penalty if I don't avail myself of it, this is true. But it doesn't mean I magically have a new sober driver.

Your shit ass analogy doesn't really fit very well, but there it is in a much closer relation to this situation.

So if I lost my current plan but I can still get coverage, even though it costs more, etc., I didn't really lose coverage.

Sounds like how the whole "created or saved jobs" mantra came about.

Sadly I honestly think he doesn't understand words well enough to know that what he is saying is not entirely truthful. He gets small bit of it correct and then just falls flat on his face when he tries to put it all together. There is this giant disconnect. For some reason he doesn't understand that you can;t think the end result is ok and use it to justify an inaccurate portrayal of reality.

I don't really know what to make of this mess of a post, so I'll introduce a new point to the discussion:

People with plans on the individual insurance market almost always """"lose their coverage"""" on an annual basis, since insurance companies constantly change and update what they want to offer these folks. Correct?

And since they had all the leverage, they could bend them over a barrel. Individual insurance plans compared poorly with group based ones on a regular basis in the pre-ACA world.

But we don't say these folks lose their coverage on the individual insurance market, do we? Why?... Because they will re-up with near-certainty.

That's the same angle here. There is literally no difference.

Well, there is a difference. The ACA protects them on the individual market so they won't get raped as badly as they were when they were on their own vs. the insurance company's total control of leverage. (This is one of the primary reasons the ACA will bend the cost curve of insurance.)

The ACA knocks off about 2.3 million plans, but mandates they re-up. So for 99% of them, they haven't lost shit. Unless we honestly want to argue that people on the individual insurance market regularly, frequently lose their coverage.

Argue all you want that the EFFECT of losing coverage is negligible or a positive or whatever... but to flat out SAY that they didn't lose coverage shows an almost psychotic break with reality OR (what I suspect) a fundamental problem with comprehension.
