I hired a man to lay a wood floor in my LR/DR area. I would find him asleep on the floor in a drunken stupor. Finally had to fire him and finished the job with my then husband ourselves.

Social drinking? Going to a restaurant and having 1 beer or a glass of wine. That is pretty common.

Can you smoke 1 joint and not be high? I don't know it has been awhile since I did that.

Regardless I am all for pot legalization for anyone over 18 or 21

You could take one hit and most definitely still be sober. Much like drinking one beer or one glass of wine, I suppose you could take a hit for social niceties if you wanted to.

A joint isn't a single serving size like a glass of beer or wine.

You and I have our opinions about what constitutes responsible consumption of these substances, but I was really asking Prison Bitch to clarify his personal definition. So far, he seems to want to hide behind a lack of clarity though.

I'm late to this party, but as someone who is at the very top of the age range shown in the graph, can tell you that I was just barely out of high school at that point and had mostly formed my opinions based on drug classes in high school. Those basically taught that all drugs were equivalently bad, so I didn't want anything more to do with weed than I did cocaine, heroin, or meth.

Then I got to college and tried it. It was pretty obvious that they were full of shit.

Noted. It doesn't look like anyone is willing to defend the idea that alcohol can be consumed responsibly but pot cannot. Prudent.

Nobody with common sense offers that argument much less defends it~

Being lied to and subsequently learning the truth for yourself makes you question all the other "fact" the offending party is feeding you. With their justified distrust of government on full display in this forum, I'm surprised PB and HCF are still way behind in regard to MJ.

I've had lengthy conversations with my wife about this very thing. I'm not going to lie to my kids about drugs, sex, or anything else (other than Santa Clause type stuff). Giving kids false information "for their own good" is nothing more than lazy parenting, IMO.

Eventually, kids are going to realize that weed isn't the worst, most horrible substance on the planet. If you've spent their entire lives telling them that it is, they are going to start questioning everything you've ever told them. It's just not worth it.

If I had to rank substances in order of what I would be most to least okay with my kids getting into:

Weed
Alcohol
Cigarettes
Chewing tobacco
"Hard" drugs

Really? You would rank cigarettes and chew as worse than booze or hippy lettuce?
Not disagreeing at all, just find that interesting.

I agree with his list.

Nicotine is proven to be deadly, far more cancerous and addictive than "hippy lettuce" and much harder to kick the habbit. Alcohol can severely impair a person's judgement and get them into some pretty bad situations.

I think, in order of which substance can have the largest longterm negative effect on a person, his list looks right.

Weed and Alcohol have short term consequences for most people.

Hard drugs and nicotine traditionally have much worse long term outcomes.

It all depends on the user of course.

He's insane, 6k oral cancer deaths per year vs. 160k lung cancer. Doesn't even touch the portion of the 600k killed by heart disease of which a chunk is tied to smoking. Smoking is infinitely more dangerous than chew.

There is no rule that says someone has to be rational though.

My only disagreement would be that we’re talking about three legal substances, assuming one is old enough to make these decisions for themselves, vs. an illegal one.
No matter how I think it is, it’s still illegal in most states.
