I don't buy into that conspiracy. I use to when i was young pothead, but not anymore.

One thing i know about rich men....they're opportunists. They became rich by supplying the demand.

There might be SOME men out there who see it as a detriment....but im willing to bet that there are enough in the "Big Pharma" that see it as a cash cow that is just waiting to be cashed in. It's simply a matter of when and how.

If the people want it, then smart, powerful men will figure out a way to profit from it.

Yeah, I'm as big a proponent as anyone, but I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist either. Are there likely some people who are financially threatened by weed becoming legal (phrama, alcohol, and tobacco companies, prisons, cops, etc.) and are, therefore, against it primarily self-preservation reasons? Sure.

But do they have so much political power that they've been the MAIN reason that it hasn't been legal to this point? Not a chance.

I know I'm obnoxious about that book, but I post stuff from it in these threads because I think the most important thing is to have a reasonable discussion about legalization rather than trying to take a stand and prove that point. This is tough stuff we're talking about, and there WILL be negative impacts of legalization, period. To act like weed is this magical thing that will change the world, saving millions of lives and billions of dollars, is just dreaming.

Only by getting beyond the far-fetched ideas of The Man holding pot smokers down does the conversation get past rhetoric and into facts. Only when it's elevated to the point where actual progress can be made.

Yes and no. The pharmaceutical cartels can control costs by buying the rights to the research and owning the med. Allowing them to price fix. Yes there are always people who will figure a way to profit. Don't kid yourself that there are not people who have spent huge coin to fight legalization~

that's a very well written post, I agree with a lot of it. But I still believe that lobbyists write the laws and are the main reason why it's still illegal in most states.

How the **** can you use one drug responsibly, but not another? It depends on the individual, not the drug **** stain. Plenty of people use alcohol irresponsibly. To deny that, would prove you are as stupid, as your prison cornhole is loose.

Both drugs, like any other drug, can be abused. Legal or not.

To be fair, his ridiculous argument was that both drugs can't be used responsibly, not that both drugs can't be abused.
