VARSITY
Republicans defund ACORN for the 12th time since it no longer exists.

The first few times was because they were idiots and didn't realize they were out of business.

Now its because they don't realize its still in the spending bills that they pass. Just take some accepted boilerplate parts of the spending bills and keep putting them in the new bill.

Talk about not reading the bill you pass....................

Yeah my 55-year-old general contractor uncle can actually get health insurance now and doesn't have to live in fear of being one accident or illness away from losing everything. Damn the ACA!

And only half a million others had to lose their insurance to make it happen for him. Cool!

Good for him. What was the problem before (that he couldn't get insured i mean)? Not trying to be a smart ass...but seriously wondering what prevented him earlier. Pre-existing, cost, what?

Something that would have been fixable without Obamacare like a pre-existing condition, no doubt. I'm guessing he doesn't need maternity care.

15 years ago – he fell off a ladder and shattered both his ankles. He was in surgery for 8 hours. He had private insurance, which covered the surgery. But soon after they jacked up his premium to four times what it was. He hasn't been able to get health insurance since - until now.

Wow. You guys don't even understand the most basic tenets of the ACA do you? Covering people who have pre-existing conditions and aren't able to get group insurance through their employer is one of the key provisions. Do you really think my uncle's case is that rare?

Every other developed nation on earth finds a way cover its citizens - regardless of whether they have pre-existing conditions. No other developed nation makes people choose between abandoning their profession or risking bankruptcy through medical bills.

Serious question - what is your solution for the self-employed who aren't in perfect health? Marry better? Suck it up and find work at a corporation? Go w/o insurance and risk it? Because those were my uncle's choices until now.

When I talk about the power of propaganda it's exactly this. Conservatives are supposed to be all for the working man, entrepreneurs and small businesses. Yet most of you are so frothily enraged against the ACA you refuse to believe people like my uncle even exist. When basic common sense and a tiny bit of knowledge about the world around you should make it obvious on its face that there are millions like my uncle out there.

My stepdad is able to retire early because of Obamacare. There will be 2 years between when his COBRA runs out and Medicare kicks in. But of course he lives in KC and is over 60 so he's addicted to Fox News and thinks Obamacare is still evil - even though he'd be ****ed without it. The cognitive dissonance is mind-boggling.

See that's the thing dipshit I do understand the problems the old system created. You think you are the only one with tough luck story? The law addresses some of the issues however it is a cluster****. As far as the Republicans they can ****off. They have all kinds of plans NOW. They didn't do squat which is why we ended up with this debacle. It is the same thing with controlling the boarder. They didn't do shit about it and now they have all kinds of plans. So when you see me arguing these issues and because the Republicans are pushing the issues you and clowns like KC trampstamp paint me as a rightwinger. The difference is the Republicans are only arguing them now because the left is in power

And I'll bet his premiums are hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars more expensive than if the ACA were not there. Right?
