Obama "I'll act with or without Congress"

Forward- throw away the Constitution I'll do want I want to do presidency.

2014: The year of action, the power grab marches on.

Obama to Dems: I'll act with or without Congress

WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama has told Senate Democrats he plans to use his executive authority to act in 2014 when Congress stands in his way.
Obama met with senators from his own party Wednesday at the White House. The White House says Obama and Democrats discussed proposals to raise the minimum wage and efforts to pass a comprehensive immigration overhaul. Education initiatives and jobs measures were also on the agenda.

The White House says Obama wants to work with Congress to make progress, but will also act on his own to get things done.

The meeting was the first such session of 2014 and comes two weeks before Obama is set to deliver his State of the Union address.

The senators left the White House without speaking to reporters. Harry Reid left smiling and even skipped to his limosine clasping his hands greedily.

Frankly, the whole premise of fear of the EO is one of those things the right never gave two seconds thought about until they saw Obama do it, and now an EO is an act of the debil! alnorth did a great job explaining the additional details of why this is so stupid, so I'll refer you to those posts for additional info.
Frequency of use is a non-issue, but I see that you were responding to a post that made it sound like someone thought it was. But you're wrong about the right suddenly worrying about EOs after Obama. There was plenty of misplaced criticism of Bush from the right for his so-called Imperial Presidency. Meanwhile the CP left has gone silent on the issue (with the possible exception of Direckshun iirc) now that Obama is in office.

Not really sure what that means, but he may have an EO regarding guns. And it will have about as much impact as the last EO regarding guns.

He will enact a gun law by executive order.

Obama isn't going to touch guns. It would bury any hope for his party in the next election.

A law? No. Some largely meaningless proclamations and agency directives? Doubtful, since he already did it, but if he does, they'll be as meaningless and non-impacting as last time.

Also this.

Gun control (which is a very broad term) is the kind of issue that some of the left care about--but what are they going to do? Vote R because Ds aren't doing enough? In the end, gun control measures rile up the right, piss off a lot of the middle, and even turn off a few on the left. It's just largely not worth it politically for the Ds to make a big issue of it.

Here Are The 23 Executive Orders On Gun Safety Signed Today By The President

President Obama has signed 23 executive orders designed to address the problem of gun violence in America. The following are the items addressed:

Gun Violence Reduction Executive Actions:

1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.
2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.
3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.
4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.
5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make itwidely available to law enforcement.
11. Nominate an ATF director.
12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.
13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effectiveuse of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to developinnovative technologies.
16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.
19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.
20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

"It does not appear that any of the executive orders would have any impact on the guns people currently own-or would like to purchase- and that all proposals regarding limiting the availability of assault weapons or large ammunition magazines will be proposed for Congressional action. As such, any potential effort to create a constitutional crisis—or the leveling of charges that the White House has overstepped its executive authority—would hold no validity."

I posted that as an example. Not to agree/disagree with any particular order. I am only posting these as I expect any new EO's to be more of the same. Are there any orders on the list that overstep his bounds as POTUS?

Not really. It's governing by a lot of lists. We just canned our old marketing director. She loved this kind of little list stuff. She used it to justify her existence, and would rattle off in meeting after meeting all these little inconsequential things that she did, only she made them sound like it was moving Everest. But the exec team saw through it, and eventually she added find a new job to her list of things that she needs to get done.

This whole thing is just Obama trying to puff himself up to look like less of a lame duck. Republicans would be better off if they laughed this stuff off instead of fighting it like he's actually accomplishing anything. They're playing into his hand making it seem like he is getting something done here.
