Has anyone here researched their heritage?

I recently have taken an interest in this. My cousin traced my fathers side. I found the results fascinating hence my avatar. I have started looking into my mothers side. I am two generations removed from Ireland. This much I already knew however tracing my bloodline back to the potato famine and confirming that this lead directly to my presence in America has been an enjoyable investigation. The running joke in our family is my brothers and sister are one fifth of Irish whiskey from being pure. My father spilled the ink as he was three quarters Irish. My research has just begun~

Nope...my great-grandmother always warned me about that..."you might not like what you find" she would say.

She obviously knew more than she was telling, but i've always heeded her advice.

No. Not really. Just from talking to my Grandparents it's almost all English and Irish. One great grandfather came from England. My one grandma told me both her parents were from Ireland, but that they never said a word about it. She said they basically removed any traces of Ireland from their speech. They just acted like they never even lived there.
And on the other side all English. Though English can really be a mixing pot of a lot of things.

I have a different view. I have always tried to find the truth in life well knowing it may render unwelcome results. Luckily this search has rendered positive results so far~

My only flawed blood is Welsh. Heritage gets lost over time. The Gaelic language died with my mother~

100% Swedish. All Great Grandparents immigrated in the mid-late 1800s. My generation was the first to not speak Swedish. Sad we allowed that to go by. Have all the family records on dads side going way back. Have enough on Moms side to get started on full scale effort. Pretty cool project for you for sure.

Not used much in country either as a I understand it. Irish fisherman still use it in the North Sea in order to keep the English fishing rigs from knowing their positions.

When I was home for the holidays my dad handed me a huge (probably 6' by 6') rolled up poster of his mom's family history, all the way back to the 1700s. It needs to be updated from about 1950 to today, but it looks pretty good, if it wasn't such a hassle to unfold and look at (it's actually a whole bunch of 8.5 by 11" pieces of paper taped together).

My task for some reason is to figure out a way to print this thing off and make it more manageable. It's still rolled up and sitting on top of the fridge. Hope no one in the family needs it for the next couple years.

It was taught to my mother by her mother and so on. I an sure it was for no other reason than to keep something from years past alive. I know none of the language or its history~
