Execution date set for Michael Taylor

http://www.kansascity.com/2014/01/24...or-killer.html

Execution date of Feb. 26 is set for man sentenced in killing of Ann Harrison
January 24
By TONY RIZZO
The Kansas City Star

The Missouri Supreme Court on Friday set a Feb. 26 execution date for one of two men convicted in the 1989 murder of a Kansas City teenager.

Michael A. Taylor was sentenced to death for the killing of 15-year-old Ann Harrison, who was waiting for a school bus in front of her southeast Kansas City home when she was kidnapped, sexually assaulted and stabbed to death.

Taylor, now 46, had come within hours of being put to death in 2006 before the execution was stayed. A co-defendant, Roderick Nunley, now 48, also remains imprisoned on a death sentence.

Both pleaded guilty, but each implicated the other as the primary assailant. They were sentenced to death by a Jackson County judge.

Taylor is one of about 20 Missouri death row inmates involved in a federal lawsuit challenging the state’s lethal injection procedures.

“This is exceptionally premature in light of the status of the lethal injection litigation,” his attorney, John Simon, said of Friday’s order.

Missouri did not carry out any executions between February 2011 and November. Since then, the state has executed two inmates after adopting a new execution protocol using the drug pentobarbital. A third man, Herbert Smulls, is scheduled for execution early Wednesday.

It's interesting they both pleaded guilty and still got the DP.
I thought that usually lowered the sentence.

Do you have your firing squads set up yet? This would be a good trial run.

Line him up and fire blanks at him for an hour or so to work on the kinks, then pop him off.

This is why I'm against the death penalty – not because I have any moral qualms about putting monsters to death. With all the legal battles it ends up costing more in the long run than just locking someone up for life.

Also there's the possibility that new technology like DNA will come along and exonerate someone. Personally I'd rather be put to death than spent 30 years in jail waiting for new technology to free me. But that's not my choice to make for somebody else.

Wait - you favor the liberal side of yet another issue? We are shocked. Why don't you tell us when you don't and spare us your rationale

I oppose the death penalty personally, but if you folks are going to insist on having it, I do wish you'd figure out a way to get on with it.

I wouldn't surprised if you are the only anti-abortion, anti-death penalty person on here. Most people are not consistent about it. I think its pretty hypocritical.
