Execution date set for Michael Taylor

http://www.kansascity.com/2014/01/24...or-killer.html

Execution date of Feb. 26 is set for man sentenced in killing of Ann Harrison
January 24
By TONY RIZZO
The Kansas City Star

The Missouri Supreme Court on Friday set a Feb. 26 execution date for one of two men convicted in the 1989 murder of a Kansas City teenager.

Michael A. Taylor was sentenced to death for the killing of 15-year-old Ann Harrison, who was waiting for a school bus in front of her southeast Kansas City home when she was kidnapped, sexually assaulted and stabbed to death.

Taylor, now 46, had come within hours of being put to death in 2006 before the execution was stayed. A co-defendant, Roderick Nunley, now 48, also remains imprisoned on a death sentence.

Both pleaded guilty, but each implicated the other as the primary assailant. They were sentenced to death by a Jackson County judge.

Taylor is one of about 20 Missouri death row inmates involved in a federal lawsuit challenging the state’s lethal injection procedures.

“This is exceptionally premature in light of the status of the lethal injection litigation,” his attorney, John Simon, said of Friday’s order.

Missouri did not carry out any executions between February 2011 and November. Since then, the state has executed two inmates after adopting a new execution protocol using the drug pentobarbital. A third man, Herbert Smulls, is scheduled for execution early Wednesday.

Why? Is abortion sort of like killing the baby before it commits a major crime? Maybe that could be a new pitch in favor of killing a baby before it is born and grows up a psycho.

I should clarify--if the anti-abortion position is religious-based, or based on the idea that it is wrong to take a life, then it is hypocritical to favor taking a life as a punishment, even if it is for a murderer.

Plus there's the issue of it being the govt doing the executing. The same people who distrust the govt on everything, including the police and the courts, are just fine with the govt giving death as a punishment. Doesn't really make sense.

If you're in favor of the death penalty, you shouldn't consider yourself pro-life.

Not to me. But if you believe it is wrong to take a life or that all life is sacred or that only God decides death, etc., then they are the same in that respect.

Pro-life as in don't particularly like abortions and would hope they are limited as much as possible?

Are you aware that death was prescribed in the Bible for certain offenses? Obviously, someone who is basically familiar with it would be aware of this.

The implication of course being that a baby is innocent, while people like the aforementioned monster have earned it.
