Obamacare is not working for me

So I enrolled my family into Obamacare.

In the state of Indiana, there are only three insurance companies who are willing to participate the Market Exchange: Anthem, PHP, and MDwise.

Anthem has very limited doctors and no local hospital.

PHP has many local doctors but no local hospital.

MDwise has local hospital but no local doctor.

I chose PHP but if my family indeed need hospital care, we have to drive 60 miles away.

What is the point to have an insurance policy like this?

That is the essence of the letter which I wrote to our President last week.

It's a lot of fun! Three weeks in I started working on my high deductible by paying full retail for a prescription for my 6 year old. $230 difference between retail price and "plan" price. Good times...

I have a $1200 for a 3 month supply medicine that I'm going to have to pay for come March. That's just one. I'm not looking forward to it.

The Cadillac tax hasn't gone into effect yet, nor has the employer mandate. I suspect a lot of companies, including mine, are using the ACA as an excuse to switch to cheaper plans. They know people will tend to assume it's because of the ACA.

You suspect incorrectly. There was nothing cheaper about any of the plan choices this year. It was pick your more expensive poison.

Sorry to hear that hombre. I made a declaration that no one was allowed to get sick, ever again, after that purchase.

It's a high deductible HSA plan and it's a pretty good plan compared to what several of my friends have through their employers. The PPO is going away next year completely so I switched to attempt to build some money in my HSA.

I don't think it's a matter of the companies as much as it is the insurance companies sneaking through every increase in cost and decrease in their responsibility that they can in the first year.

Yes, I made my wife tough out a minor sickness because I wanted to save some money in the HSA first. Our company kicks down $1200 at the beginning of the year.

My company kicks in a $1000 and I will kick in about $3000 this year. I am thinking on maxing out my contribution. We are over 50 so we get the kicker as well. My thoughts are that if we can avoid using it by staying healthy we can use the money for health care down the road when I finally walk away from the rat race. If I understand correctly the money can be used for premiums as well. Anybody know if that's the case?

You know what your employer contribution is this year compared to last year?

My coverage is Aetna and it went down again this year same coverage. Has gone down 3 years in a row. We have been told to expect a major increase if things stay as they are unless Aetna gets out of the exchanges as it is rumored.
