Minimum wage will go up to $10.10 according to the Prez

It is only for new federal government contracts for services, like janitors and construction workers. What happens to the $15 minimum wage the fast food workers want?

Everything in this post is wrong, except for the need to increase upward mobility.

I'll give you a chance to cite it though before I start bringing about my own information.

Also, having a pay above the federal poverty level is a great way to help people move up the income ladder. Kind of hard to get ahead when you need food stamps just to feed yourself.

So last night on the news, there was reaction from a "watch party" at the Plaza library. It looked like 8 people were in the room watching. One lady says afterwards: "I really liked his minimum wage proposal. Something like 70% of min wage earners are women so this is an important issue to us."

The staggering level of stupidity in that woman's face was just awe-inspiring. But hey, the War On Women shit works. Why would the Dems ever stop using it?

I had heard that 70% figure from Carly Fiorina, a Republican former adviser to John McCain, as well. Contradictorily, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn. 5th) tweeted that it was 52%, which is more in line with the population. Neither provided sources, but figures taken from the progressive Center for Economic and Policy Research think tank suggest it's about 62% - or maybe 64%, depending on who you ask.

I strongly suspect that it's spectral, sourceless, easily-believed BS.

Your comment was sarcastic, so I interpreted it ironically. It sounded to me like you were disparaging blue collar work in general as not deserving any kind of decent pay. If that's not the case, then you can disregard my comment.

I don't disagree. I've often argued against fast food/wal mart employees getting 10 bucks... unless they're really good at it. If that's the case, they'll get paid if their employer wants to keep them.

Well, ACTUALLY Wal mart pays employees better than they get credit for (their truck drivers routinely make six figures) because they pay their unskilled clerks poorly for being unskilled and replaceable by a kiosk (it's happening everywhere).

I find it weird to mandate 10 bucks for construction workers... unless you're exploiting illegal labor then there is pretty much no way you can keep a construction crew motivated with pay lower than that. I start guys at $12 and I think that's low-ball.

Yes, let's be like China where many corporations have 'suicide windows'.

I say abolish all worker's rights and put children back into the factories! Then they could make more money! If there's one thing this country needs more of, it's wage slaves.

And in Europe, the problem is disastrous. It's currently around 23%.

Minimum wage favors experienced workers. If you're going to pay somebody $10 an hour, you're not going to favor a young employee who is desperate to find their first job. You're going to hire the experienced person.

That means that high schoolers typically seeking employment are going to struggle to find work. Entry level college students who are already struggling to find good work are going to have an even tougher time.

You have to feel really, really sorry for kids trying to make it in this world. First they get slammed by 2 recessions, now they have to contend with a wage skill that makes it increasingly difficult for them to get their start or the experience necessary to get their start.

No, I'd much rather have drunks who deserve $10.10 an hour...that way they can afford to bail themselves out after getting arrested for DUIs and not miss any work.

I really don't understand this half-ass shit anyway...Let's end poverty!

Let's raise the minimum wage to $50 an hour instead of using this incremental approach. We'll wipe out hunger and homelessness forever!

Yeah, working at a min wage job is the place to do that. Especially for a family of 4's breadwinner.
