Are you in a cultural bubble?

Interesting that this comes along now. There seems to be a lot of this happening here in ChiefsPlanet land. Some people seem to be very much contained in a bubble and are not exposing themselves to other ideas, cultures and experiences that would enrich their lives.

Take this cool short quiz and see where you score.

http://ideas.time.com/2012/04/06/qui...ltural-bubble/

Here was mine:
Quiz Completed
If you scored 0-30% you need to circulate more. Your bubble is very thick.
If you scored 30%-65% you are a work in progress. Your bubble may be expanding.
If you scored 65%-100% you do get around. Your bubble is quite large and permeable.
You scored 70%!

I don't really see how this defines anything at all about cultural bubbles.

I mean "have you purchases a truck?"

Yeah. **** man I work out of a truck.

"Have you gone fishing??

What? Not recently. So?!

"Are you friends with an evangelical christian? Sure. I'm a ****ing atheist though... so what?

"Have I you ever had work that caused you to HURT at the end of the day?"

What the ****? Of course. Most people have. Life isn't candy and rainbows. IT's stressful painful WORK.

And my favorite... "Have you ever purchased Avon products?"

I'm a MAN!! Why in the **** would I purchase avon products? What does this answer mean? If I say 'NO' is that a negative? So I'm not fully living outside my bubble if I don't wear make-up? I don't get it!

Is this thing for women? I mean it says 'you or your spouse' when it's fishing, but when it's buying Avon products it's all about YOU. Weird....

Weird set of questions, clearly skewed towards identifying urban/suburban people as being in a bubble because they don't go fishing, need a pickup truck or…buy Avon?

Or...is it to prove those who fish, buy avon and live in small towns are beneath the rest? It is Time magazine....

Heh. I know I'm in a bubble. I have a lot more cultural exposure than a lot of people, but I'm in a bubble. And given my career choice, etc., I'm in a bubble by my own doing. As long as I acknowledge that I'm in a bubble and understand how it distorts my perspective, I'm comfortable with it.

Does nothing but post silly posts about the president from silly sources, quiz says he's got an open mind.

Let me guess this quiz is from weaselzipper.com?

As far as the quiz, it is put together by a radical conservative whose sources are a study of the white population of a town in Delaware and car counting in a mall parking lot. Suffice to say that to extrapolate that to the entirety of America is what I would deem a stretch.

My comment was not so much to discredit the source directly but to merely comment that a quiz that views someone who posts as much drivel as you do, as frequently as you do, by the sketchy sources that you use, and say that you have an open mind is probably worth the price you paid to take it.
