Are you in a cultural bubble?

Interesting that this comes along now. There seems to be a lot of this happening here in ChiefsPlanet land. Some people seem to be very much contained in a bubble and are not exposing themselves to other ideas, cultures and experiences that would enrich their lives.

Take this cool short quiz and see where you score.

http://ideas.time.com/2012/04/06/qui...ltural-bubble/

Here was mine:
Quiz Completed
If you scored 0-30% you need to circulate more. Your bubble is very thick.
If you scored 30%-65% you are a work in progress. Your bubble may be expanding.
If you scored 65%-100% you do get around. Your bubble is quite large and permeable.
You scored 70%!

Sweet! Come back anytime. Maybe you will have something to add? We already have Cosmo and you can't carry his socks so work on a new approach.

Dick Bull is J Diddy. It's hard to understand why this fun little quiz is bothering him so much, but he doesn't seem to be a fan of yours so it's probably just a personality thing.

"Are you friends with an evangelical christian? Sure. I'm a ****ing atheist though... so what?

"Have I you ever had work that caused you to HURT at the end of the day?"

What the ****? Of course. Most people have. Life isn't candy and rainbows. IT's stressful painful WORK.

And my favorite... "Have you ever purchased Avon products?"

I'm a MAN!! Why in the **** would I purchase avon products? What does this answer mean? If I say 'NO' is that a negative? So I'm not fully living outside my bubble if I don't wear make-up? I don't get it!

Is this thing for women? I mean it says 'you or your spouse' when it's fishing, but when it's buying Avon products it's all about YOU. Weird....
Charles Murray is basically using what he considers to be a model of elitism (city dwellers with white collar jobs) versus provincial country folk.
That's how I took it. However, there was a question in there I'd say reveals a generational divide.

He has no reason to be a poop. Its a fun quiz. Its free. It should cause people to think and consider options they have and opportunities to expand ones horizons.

Those who dislike the quiz the most are those who think they are open minded and have learned its not so.... thus the liberal realizes they work hardest to silence others and the conservative encourages discourse among rivals.

I think in many ways this sums it up...

A boy blames everyone and everything but himself when he loses—the refs made bad calls, the teacher had it out for him, somebody else must have cheated. A man takes responsibility for what happened. The liberal cannot take responsibility so remains but a boy through life.

You are ignorant if you think Charles Murray is some sort of radical conservative. He's a former progressive liberal who shifted his stances in the 1980s. He wrote "Losing Ground" which consists of studies on how social programs by the federal govt have failed the very people they sought to help. This caused him to change some of his stances. He's considered a Neo Conservative these days.

NeoConservatives are hardly "radical conservatives" in the sense you're using it. They're more like RINOs favoring more govt than a conservative, usually in FP. The quiz has an intro where he says there is a growing divide of the elite and regular folks these days.

The quiz itself is flawed, imo, because it has no way of detecting if a person has changed their views by coming into contact with other ideas. It's more a reflection of provincial country folks versus city folks or urban professionals.

Per the dictionary the full definition of bigot is:

a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance
Everyone has some of this in them, because we all hate something. Cosmos who has a hatred for limited govt aka conservativism and engages in a targeted campaign of insults showing a severe lack of tolerance. Then we Dave Lane on religion. Well, 'er I mean Christianity in particular.
