Keystone stumbling block may be ID'ed?

Obammy wouldn't want to piss off $100Million reasons to stop the pipeline now would he?

No idea who this moonbat is but Im betting the Keysone would somehow cost him some bucks.

Billionaire climate-change activist Tom Steyer could spend $100 million in the 2014 midterm election season — and maybe even more — to help Democratic candidates, NBC News confirms.

Steyer’s group, NextGen Climate Action, played a role in last year’s close gubernatorial contest in Virginia.

And in this election cycle, Steyer is already targeting Republican Florida Gov. Rick Scott.

“Is it going to take $100 million? I have no idea,” Steyer told the New York Times, which first reported this story. “I think that would be a really cheap price to answer the generational challenge of the world.”

Steyer is one of the biggest — and wealthiest — opponents of the politically charged Keystone XL pipeline.

I know who he is and he really isn't in it for the money, imo. He truly believes that we are causing irrepairable damage to the planet.

I tend to agree with him on that.

Where I disagree is that he thinks democrats are the answer. They are not. They simply play with different polluters.

That bodes well for the millennials. They may be roaming the streets in packs and eating pets while these climate nuts sit home and eat caviar. Better get ahead of this shit or ride the green train to ****ing nowhere

I agree. Climate change is definitely a problem. But Democrats do not have the answer. Politicians don't even understand climate change, let alone have a solution for it.

Exactly...at this point the only way to "save the planet" is to kill off half it's inhabitants. I remember one railing on processed food..."Yeah bro, we know it's not optimal, but how the hell are you going to feed millions upon billions of people? Does everyone need a farm? We don't have the space for that, bro. You have to realign your expectations for reality."

they have no answer to that. None what-so-ever.

Can anyone make a cogent case for why the keystone pipeline is going to destroy the planet? I mean, what really is the objection? Did the trans-alaska pipeline destroy it? Do liberals not want to encourage fossil fuel usage by making it more affordable and available? I don't understand.

It wouldn't make more affordable nor more available.

There are huge environmental concerns with the bodies of water that Keystone would travel across.

Aside from that, with the build out of MLPs, Keystone is becoming increasingly irrelevant. If it never comes to be, it would not affect pricing one bit.

there are environmental concerns with any pipeline anywhere. How are we going to learn to mitigate those concerns unless we test ourselves?

Destroy the planet is a considerable exaggeration. But there's certainly enough concerns to make the Keystone look like a bad idea which the rewards wouldn't be worth the risks.

Tar sands crude is the dirtiest form of crude, and the required refinement is inefficient and gives off considerable pollution itself.

Quote:
According to the US Department of Environmental Protection, the greenhouse gas emissions from Canadian oil sands crude oil will be more than 80% greater than oil refined in the US. Independent estimates run up to three times more global warming pollution than conventional oil.

The Alberta tar sands are estimated to contain enough carbon to raise carbon emissions in the atmosphere by 200 parts per million. That would increase the current level of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere by more than half.

http://www.labor4sustainability.org/...ine-and-labor/
We've already seen several spills in piping tar sands crude, and it's made for difficult and expensive cleanup.

In addition, in the face of the risks, the number of jobs created has reportedly been exaggerated.

Quote:
“Contrary to claims that the pipeline would be a national jobs creator, the State Department review of the project has confirmed that the construction of the pipeline would generate the equivalent of roughly two years of work for 1,000 people, a job creation potential on par with building a shopping mall, and once built its operation would only employ 50 personnel in both Canada and the United States.

“The substantial risks of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline outweigh its marginal benefits. In exchange for 50 permanent jobs, Keystone XL would pose a permanent risk to American communities, sensitive water resources, the agricultural industry and our climate.”
