Have you ever changed an opinion?

In reading in this forum, have you ever changed an opinion on any topic as a result of your own conversations or by observing the ones that go on here?

I don't think there is really a right or wrong answer, but I am just curious how many people have had a change in the way they think about or view any of the topics discussed.

The poll is a simply yes or no, so feel free to elaborate on the number of times this may have happened and the subjects that it happened with if you so choose.

So...you are arguing that these green companies, which are usually money losers, have more money to throw around than the fossil fuel industry? You can't be serious. I agree that enviro-nuts have their own form of political clout, separate from the ability to make political contributions, but there's no doubt that the fossil fuel industry is massively wealthy and throws around substantial political dollars.

Remember that many other industries, including the car industry, coal industry, etc., are also on the side of the status quo...

In reading some of the political backdrop of the war, however, I became fairly convinced that, yes, it was largely an unjustified war of aggressive/expansion by the U.S. That overturned my previously held understandign (simple grade school history) that it was a "Second American Revolution" and other such nonsense.

Admitting to all this on the board might cause BEP's and others' heads to explode, but suffice to say I've never found much else that she had to say to be remotely accurate. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while, I suppose...
You should've read her (and Patteu's) nonsense about the legality of the South seceding. I used to think as they did years ago, that it was legal. After the petitions following the 2012 election were circulated, I read up on the issue and it became clear to me that my prior beliefs were utterly incorrect.

I used to believe JFK's assassination was part of a conspiracy, but now I don't. Same with 9/11.

I used to believe the leftwing media influenced elections but I don't anymore. Now I believe they only strengthen the views of their followers and do the same for their opponents.

I used to oppose smoking bans in bars/restaurants but now I see the benefits of such laws.

I used to believe the GOP was fiscally conservative. Those were good times.

I used to find libertarianism appealing but then I grew up.

You're kidding right? I've argued Civil War issues with her a thousand times, including that one. Don't recall Pat being on her side on those issues.

As for the rest, wow. Alot of changes!

Didn't do the lead smelting industry any good or the coal industry. Telling the world that every thing is fine and run the heater all you want doesn't exactly give the EPA a reason to violate the 4th.
Why does the EPA need a SWAT team?

Right, they're on the opposite side of the coin from, well, you.

Fundamentally, it seems to me you're simply anti-establishment. 9 times out of 10, whatever the government says, whatever the common consensus says, your immediate reaction is to go the other way. Right or wrong, you're always going to be hyper-skeptical that any single thing the government or consensus of people studying a particular issue might be right. Which is fine. Skepticism has its place.

Yes, he got roped into that one by her. Or by me, at the time he was very argumentative with everything I was writing so I could've been the target of those counter points.

I heard a little about the shutting down of the last lead smelting plant, which seemed pretty stupid to me, but don't have the details behind it. Most likely, if i heard them all, I'd still think it was stupid. But I'm not an environmentalist above all else.

I don't know anything about the EPA violating the Fourth Amendment, nor anything about it having a SWAT team. I do know most federal agencies have their own division or department of armed personnel who can make arrests and/or provide security.

BEP denies that slavery was even a cause of the civil war. You can't really argue about the civil war with her. She's in complete denial.

Why does the EPA need a SWAT team?
Because they enforce laws and some people can be kind of crazy.

That, or the coming martial law. Probably the martial law.
