Wolfenstein: The New Order out May 23, Doom 4 beta access

Wolfenstein: The New Order out May 23, with Doom 4 beta access

Doom 4 isnít doomed after all
Bethesda has given a release date for its Wolfenstein reboot, while revealing that Doom 4 is far more imminent than anyone realised.
The big news here isnít the release date for Wolfenstein: The New Order, which was always assumed to be due in the first half of this year, but the fact that Doom 4 actually exists and is far enough along that a beta is already being organised.

After having been delayed and restarted multiple times Doom 4 had essentially turned into vapourware, with the departure of id Software founder John Carmack seeming to hint that the game had been completely abandoned. But thatís clearly not the case.

The promotion for the new Wolfenstein only refers to the game as ĎDoomí, suggesting itís being pitched as a reboot. Although Doom and Doom 3 already had the same basic story, so it wouldnít make much difference.

Bethesda has issued the following statement, but offered no details on the nature of the game itself:

ĎAlthough youíll receive the Doom beta key code with your copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order, the Doom beta wonít begin until a later, yet-to-be announced date. We will contact you with news and updates surrounding the start of the Doom beta via the email address provided during the key code redemption process.í

The New Order is being created by new developer MachineGames, which was founded by many of the same people that worked on The Chronicles Of Riddick and The Darkness at Starbreeze Studios.

Itís out on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC and was looking great last time we saw it.

Wolfenstein3D on DOS was the shit. This looks, meh. I guess it's a step in the right direction since it looks like they took a page out of Inglorious Basterds and decided to not take themselves too seriously (after the Return to Castle Wolfenstein fiasco).

This looks really pretty good and I am not a fan of FPS.
Looks like its worth buying just for the storyline alone.

They had two commercials before the big G movie and this was the first I'd heard of it.

An alt-reality game where the NAZIs won and we get to kill NAZI's all day?

I'm in.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).
