Jaws wouldn't take Manziel until the 4th

Ron Jaworski: I wouldnít take Manziel in first three rounds
Posted by Josh Alper on February 26, 2014, 6:56 AM EST

Most of the discussion regarding Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manzielís football future has centered on whether he will go in the first three picks.

Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski is taking a contrarian view. During an interview on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia, Jaworski was asked about the Eagles meeting with Manziel at the combine and said he liked the idea because it is a way of stockpiling information on a player youíre likely to play against at some point.

As for the idea of taking Manziel? Jaws isnít so keen on that for the Eagles or anyone else in the league.

ďIím a big believer in Nick Foles, but who knows?Ē Jaworski said. ďManziel may fall. Iím not crazy about him, to be honest with you. Iíve only looked at five games. I wouldnít take him in the first three rounds. Thatís my opinion. Itís incomplete right now. But he has not done a whole lot to me.Ē

Jaworski has always taken strong opinions about quarterbacks and they donít always follow the orthodoxy, so itís probably fair to say that he doesnít mind being an outlier on this front. Still, it would be perhaps the greatest shocker in the history of the draft if Manziel were available on even the second day of this yearís draft

I know it's not going to happen but I would love to see the Jets draft Manziel. Imagine have two arrogant little prick QB's on their team.
Hate to break it to you, but that arrogance will win over his teammates in a heartbeat the second he starts stacking up wins with outstanding play.

My concern is I don't think his play will be outstanding at the next level and translate to wins. If I'm right... god help him with the attitude.

If he isn't fast enough to do all that Dipsy-Doo crap he did in college he could bust quick. His 40 at the combine was ok, he 10-yard split was pretty good though. Quick more than fast.

interesting to see

Really good 10-yard split, shuttle and cone drill times. And at 207 pounds. He's still gonna make fat lineman miss when he needs to.

I like Jaws, but after 4 starts by Tyler Thigpen, he went on the radio and said something along the lines of "The Chiefs don't have to look for their quarterback of the future any further."

Not worthless. He still feels the pressure as good as anybody, which is why he had so few fumbles. He'd just have to adjust his maneuvering tactics (e.g. stepping up in the pocket). He has the footwork and release to be a great pocket passer

I don't know about that ... all that freewheeling is part of the way he plays.

Difficult to change your throwing motion, difficult to change your instincts of playing the position.

Yep. He makes statements like this because if he's right he can go back and pat himself on the back. If he's wrong? No one will remember.

If he starts taking 10-yard sacks all the time, he'll learn real quick. The tools are there
