Jaws wouldn't take Manziel until the 4th

Ron Jaworski: I wouldnít take Manziel in first three rounds
Posted by Josh Alper on February 26, 2014, 6:56 AM EST

Most of the discussion regarding Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manzielís football future has centered on whether he will go in the first three picks.

Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski is taking a contrarian view. During an interview on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia, Jaworski was asked about the Eagles meeting with Manziel at the combine and said he liked the idea because it is a way of stockpiling information on a player youíre likely to play against at some point.

As for the idea of taking Manziel? Jaws isnít so keen on that for the Eagles or anyone else in the league.

ďIím a big believer in Nick Foles, but who knows?Ē Jaworski said. ďManziel may fall. Iím not crazy about him, to be honest with you. Iíve only looked at five games. I wouldnít take him in the first three rounds. Thatís my opinion. Itís incomplete right now. But he has not done a whole lot to me.Ē

Jaworski has always taken strong opinions about quarterbacks and they donít always follow the orthodoxy, so itís probably fair to say that he doesnít mind being an outlier on this front. Still, it would be perhaps the greatest shocker in the history of the draft if Manziel were available on even the second day of this yearís draft

All I'm saying is, he's a decent QB that was surrounded by a lot of talent both at skilled and nonskilled positions. He has had plenty of opportunity to be good while at TAMU.

The balance of talent gets evened out at the next level.
Sorry Mr. TaterHOG but do you think its just coincidence that his last two left tackles have been rated #1 in their respective drafts. Wonder why ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

And how do you take a team to 11-3 or whatever they were with a last place Defense?????

I'm with you. Even if you make him as a receiver. If we take a ****ing guard instead of JM and hes there at our #1 pick I may have to call it quits.

The 4th is a little sensational, but would you spend a first on him? I wouldn't. He doesn't seem like an NFL passer to me, and he doesn't seem like he has the size to stay healthy.

Griffin had a better chance to succeed and was probably better in all phases than Manziel, and even apart from his injuries it's definitely questionable whether he can play the QB position at the NFL level.

I'm not going to bet my job, as a GM, and the next 3-4 years of my franchise on him with a first round pick. If you start talking about a pick in another round maybe it's worth a gamble, but...

i agree. Watching QBs against mizzou, both Murray and shaw looked better than Manziel.

If you think Manziel should go 1.1 that's fine, but it has to be due to intangibles, as he doesn't have a single skill that is projectable to being a top 15 NFL QB. He's not particularly fast, big, he doesn't have a strong arm, and he isn't amazingly accurate. He's almost all intangibles.
