I haven't followed this very closely, but I thought that is what some of the business owners were saying, that they should be able to refuse to serve homosexuals?

No, this is about patching the state's Religious Freedom Restoration Act (an act that parallels similar measures in over half the states and at the Federal level since Clinton) to account for litigated ambiguities that have arisen in other states. It's not specifically about gays and it wouldn't impact that ability of restaurateurs to discriminate against them. Instead, it makes clarifications such as confirming that the act applies to business forms like corporations and partnerships as well as sole proprietorships (one of the issues in the Hobby Lobby case). Critics have misrepresented it as an effort to create an open season on gays.

The letter from 11 politically diverse, legal scholars that I posted in post 34 is worth a read.

And many of those gay owners prefer to hire gays to work for them. Nothing wrong with that....and it's also discrimination.

They are not gay owners. They are owners. WTF difference does the owners orientation have to do with having a wait staff that happens to include gays and a kitchen staff that does? discrimination? are you mad?

Because in this day and age with the gay issue, bringing up that their gay owners is relevant to their discrimination by hiring other gays because they prefer to work with their own kind. If a heterosexual owner preferred to hire his own kind he'd be prosecuted and fined.

Do you refuse to serve atheists or adulterers at your place of business? If you sell a cheeseburger to a bank robber are you complicit in their sin? Frankly, this is new to me. I've never heard Christians say they can't do business with sinners before. Are you guys allowed to buy from stores that are owned/operated by gays?
A wedding is a celebration of a religious union (obviously governmental structures started recognizing them long ago as well, but that's another debate... ). It is completely reasonable to find issue with being forced to cater, photograph, or otherwise create items (ie cake) to celebrate a gay 'marriage'. We're not talking about denying gays food at McDonald's - this is completely different.

Granted, this is New Mexico, but i wanted to see how everyone feels about this and how it fits in with the Arizona discussion? If Q...then, FuhQ.

Gay hair stylist drops New Mexico governor as client because she opposes same-sex marriage

New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez needs a new hairdresser — or a new stance on gay marriage.
Martinez was recently dropped by her hair stylist, Antonio Darden, who is gay.
Darden told a local news station that he cut the governor’s hair three times, but won’t do it again as long as she continues to oppose gay marriage.

“The governor’s aides called not too long ago, wanting another appointment to come in,” he told KOB-TV. “Because of her stances and her views on this, I told her aides no. They called the next day, asking if I’d changed my mind about taking the governor in and I said no.”
Martinez has said she believes marriage should be between a man and woman.
Darden, a popular stylist in Santa Fe and the owner of Antonio’s Hair Studio, has been with his partner for 15 years.
“It’s just equality, dignity for everyone,” he said. “Everybody should be allowed the right to be together.”
Gay marriage is not recognized in New Mexico.

Yup! Yet, it's like the governor asked him to do the hair of people participating in some anti-gay marriage event either. The former case was more narrow than just refusing to serve gays.
