David Jolly (R) defeats Alex Sink (D) in special election

This election was considered a toss-up and closely watched. Just don't know about anyone here. It was a special election to replace Republican Congressman
Bill Young who died in office this past fall. Sink wanted to keep Obamacare and Democrat turnout was reported as heavy earlier in the day by Jolly. Sink outspent him by more than double with money coming from D.C.

Jolly won. The Libertarian took some votes away too. Some consider it a harbinger for the fall elections. Let's hope so.

Way to go Pinellas County.

I think Hillsborough County may be more Democrat. That's where BRC lives.

I was worried Jolly may not win, tho I did not nominate him. I nominated Bircher. I was all over my daughter to get her absentee ballot and she never did which po'd me. But he made it.

No single election is a reliable indicator of much of anything... BUT considering that Jolly was outspent at least 2-1 and Sink was a more established "brand" this certainly doesn't bode well for Dems.. I wouldn't however say it means the GOP will win the Senate, I still feel that they'll make gains but not enough to get 51 seats... but I can't imagine a scenario now where the GOP loses the House.

Sink outspent Jolly 4 to 1. District went to Obama in '08 & ' 12. Sink was a moderate Democrat who was respected. Jolly supposedly wasn't an ideal candidate. Democrats are panicking.

WHOA....HOLD UP...

Outspent 4 to 1? 2 to 1? You guys need to get your facts straight. Total spending was $7,032,741 for Sink and $5,371,456 for Jolly. That's total money spent. Sink raised more money but Jolly got bailed out by national interests that are looking to use the victory as a narrative against the Affordable Healthcare Act. (Think Koch brothers.) You can stop gloating now. The small gap in the final election results mirror the party demographics for the county. So it's not surprising that Jolly won with the influx of national money and the demographics of the county.

But seriously... How do you not vote for anyone named "Jolly"? That would be akin to booing and throwing snowballs at Santa during a half-time show. Good thing for Jolly the election wasn't held in Philly.

Didn't a Libertarian run and pull a significant number of votes from Jolly?
