This has actually been a relatively hot topic of discussion on this forum. Most of us are uniformly opposed to Su'a-Filo -- less because of talent, and more because we don't want a guard in the first round.

Sac will be by shortly to sing this guy's praises, and I've no doubt that he's on Dorsey's shortlist.

Regardless, I continue to think the Chiefs will use the 1st rounder on the back seven.

I'm under the assumption that they will draft the best interior lineman available at #23, whether its Su'a Filo or Yankey. That isn't to say I want that, but it is the most likely situation.

The deepest draft class EVER with skill position players, and of course we go offensive line in the first round again, only to not pick until the third round after that. It's just what we do.

Think about that statement for a second from the other side. If it is, indeed, the deepest class ever with skill position players, then why does it make sense to take a position there are plenty of good players at early in lieu of taking a very good lineman and then taking the skill guys later at a discount?

Because we would have a shot at an elite skill player at 23 instead of a very good one? That, and the little fact that you JUST DON'T DRAFT GUARDS IN THE FIRST ROUND. EVER. Look at the guards that have played here over the years. Look at the rounds they were drafted in. That's why.

Elite lineman and good skill player or Elite skill player and ?????? That's the game you're playing. The closer you can get to "knowns" in the draft the better off you are. In any event, that isn't important because I get what you want to happen.

I don't disagree with you about the need for skill, so no need to yell at me but I think you are letting emotions direct your course of thought.

Where I disagree is on your diatribe about not drafting guards in round 1. It has been a trend in the NFL for a few years now where guards are being drafted early. There is also a reason guards get drafted higher more frequently.

Ha, not yelling at "you", just yelling. I have a long running hatred of taking linemen in the first round, particularly the linemen we have selected over the years. My distaste is born of a historic lack of young playmakers taken early for this team.

If this kid has it in him to be the next Bruce Matthews or Randall McDaniel, of course you take him. But I won't like it initially.

It's extremely difficult to get excited about any offensive lineman in the 1st round.

We would have a starting OL with two 1sts, two 2nds, an a 3rd, and other than the possible exception of this year's rookie, none of them are particularly good.

When I have to select breeding gilts I'd rather have to pick the best out of 50 than the best out of 5. Same thing applies here.

Bowser and Direckshun, I fully understand what you both are saying. I'm not that high on taking a lineman again... I guess that you look at what we got with those two 1sts, two 2nds, and a 3rd and who was in charge to take them.

We have

Round 1 - Eric Fisher - OT
Round 2 - Jeff Allen - OG (SUCKS)
Round 2 Rodney Hudson - OC
Round 3 - Donald Stephenson - OT

Round 1 - Dontari Poe - DT

The rounds you expect to get starters in are rounds 1, 2, and 3. I'm not upset that those guys all came where they did. I understand and accept that you miss sometimes and Jeff Allen in my mind is a miss.

What pisses me off is what isn't on the team.

Round 1 - Glenn Dorsey - DT/DE
Round 1 - Tysyn Jackson - DT/DE
Round 1 - Branden Albert - OT

Those are the ones that hurt. None played to their respective draft status and none are with the team. Albert was a marginal LT and had his best year by far in a contract season. It isn't that you don't want and don't need lineman in round 1, what you need is to draft the right ones and keep them for a long, long time. We've been hurt most by what we don't have.

I mean, look at all SF has spent on their line up front..

Round 1 - Joe Staley - OT
Round 1 - Anthony Davis - OT
Round 1 - Mike Iupati - OG
Round 3 - Adam Snyder - OG

Also have...
Round 4 - Joe Looney - OG
Round 5 - Dan Kilgore - OC

Round 3 - Ray McDonald - DE

I cant imagine a scenario where Xavier is the BPA at #23.

They got to one though, and that is far more playoff victories than we can say for KC. Point really is that drafting for offensive line early isn't the worst thing the team can do.

I can imagine a scenario where Xavier is BPA. However, that doesn't mean its the pick I'd make, but it is the one I'd expect KC to make as I said in my needs-based mock. There are some talents not listed by the draftniks on the interweb for round 1 that I'd consider. Attaochu, Ward, Fuller, Matthews, Tuitt. Those are guys I'd want on my team.
