Even though the guy apparently never saw direct combat, three tours might've just gotten to him in other ways, from what I hear you still see all kinds of incredibly crazy things over there, combat or no.

Of course, its also entirely possible he had problems that cant be blamed on anyone or anything... he might've snapped while working in a warehouse, restaurant etc.
