Jensen we need you. Tell us agin this isn't so...

The North Carolina State Board of Elections has found thousands of instances of voter fraud in the state, thanks to a 28-state crosscheck of voter rolls. Initial findings suggest widespread election fraud.

765 voters with an exact match of first and last name, DOB and last four digits of SSN were registered in N.C. and another state and voted in N.C. and the other state in the 2012 general election.
35,750 voters with the same first and last name and DOB were registered in N.C. and another state and voted in both states in the 2012 general election.
155,692 voters with the same first and last name, DOB and last four digits of SSN were registered in N.C. and another state – and the latest date of registration or voter activity did not take place within N.C.
The second point is key, as double voting is election fraud under state and federal statutes. Punishment for double voting in federal elections can include jail time.

Wow. I really thought you already knew people moved. It's one of the bigger arguments against voter ID.

A large majority of these people are college students.

I can try to find it but I know in 2010 four cases in Colorado alone resulted in people being indicted. I have not seen any data on actual conviction rates however.
It is not the obvious answer. It's only the obvious answer if you have a partisan bias that leads you to hope there is fraud there.

Otherwise, it reeks of bullshit immediately.

Was that institutional fraud, or individual voter fraud?

I'd have to think I'd be nearly impossible to convict an individual. You'd have to prove they were actually the one who voted twice under their own name. My voter both doesn't have cameras in it.

If it's institutional, then you're back to having no leg to stand on as voter ID doesn't solve this.

Who said anything about Voter ID? This issue has ZILCH to do with voter ID. Totally separate solution to a separate problem.

As for the 4 cases in Colorado I'm not sure. I know that at least 4 people were indicted and the crosscheck database was involved.

You are right that it is tough as hell to convict an individual. Which further goes toward my point that just because we don't have a ton of prosecutions or convictions doesn't mean the system isn't a mess. Whole thing needs an overhaul to address two glaring needs...#1 make it easier for everyone to vote #2 make it easier to verify the legitimacy of every vote

While most elections are not (I beleive) affected by widespread fraud, I don't EVER want another Al Franken.

Well Al Franken is a Badass, so I'll take two.

Sorry. I'm more speaking to your party than you specifically. I know your stance, sorry. Voter ID is a sore subject.

Other than that, you really need to get rid of gerrymandering while you're at it.

Computers should draw the districts with overrides allowed in extreme cases and after jumping through a ridiculous amount of hoops.

Oh and all politics aside... Franken is a giant douche. It's a pretty well known fact.

Someone's apparently never been to an all black precinct on election day. I'd be surprised if anyone voted for McCain at the one I monitored.

First, it seems your assertion that Al won b/c of fraud is just a lie that continues to be told. It seems pretty well debunked by now.

Quote:
“There is no basis in fact, whatsoever, in these inaccuracies propagated by the Minnesota Majority here, none,” Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said Wednesday. “After the most closely scrutinized election in Minnesota history in 2008, there were zero cases of fraud. Even the Republicans lawyers acknowledged that there was no systematic effort to defraud the election, none.”

“In Hennepin County, 650,000 people voted,” he continued. “The Minnesota Majority presented us with 1,500 cases that they felt there were problems with voting. Our own election bureau gave us 100. At the end of the day, we charged 38 cases. And all but one of them are felons voting who were still under the penalty [of not legally applying to regain individual voting rights]. There was no fraud.”

In many cases, former felons are not aware that they have to go through a legal process to regain their voting rights, unlike getting a driver’s license.
Also, why is he a douche? I've always known him to be funny, smart and considerate. Honestly looking for a reason.

No, but Obama did receive 95% of the black vote nationally, so it wouldn't be outrageous that he might receive 99 or even 100% in some specific districts.

If it costs $100 million dollars to implement it would be a steal. I have said all along that this is my "ideal" and that I doubt our govt could actually pull it off.
I like your idea of biometric database and couple that with my biometric National ID card we should go in business together.

I am all for electronic voting though and being able to vote from home, on your phone, tablet etc. Pie in the sky I know.

Well, as long as you're 18, American, not a felon, in your district.........

Yeah, asking folks to prove they are those things is a HUGE problem. After all, how can they get out (except to vote)?

It's all good, they have TONS of cats at the shelter! And I figure they're A) American, and B) eighteen (in cat years), and two-out-of-many ain't bad these days. Certainly close enough for me! I'll just help them vote - you know, lend a helping hand!

Nope, not at all, so don't bother worrying about it now I say... Heck, don't even bother to check. Jeeeez, there's nothing to "check" anyway. Checking is an invasion of my (and my cat's) privacy!

The 10th name still belongs to 27,000 people. Down to number 13 and we're still at a wide distribution of 25,000. The top 13 names as a whole have a combined 389,000 owners.
You're going to need to add a lot of Mr. Kitty's, Mrs. Kitty's, Mr. Rover's, and Mrs. Rovers's to the list. Don't worry as much about the Mr. and Mrs. Chickens and Me. and Mrs. Cows (I can't get those at the shelter).

The funny thing is this whole theory about people moving wouldn't be alleviated by ANY of the proposed voter ID laws. I love this line:

"Hey look at this possible fraud!" (in something like absentee ballots)

"You realize voter ID laws would do nothing to combat this right?"

"Yeah but if this is happening with absentee ballots imagine what's happening in person?" (as republicans never lift one finger to curb absentee ballot fraud since absentee ballots lean republican)
