No wonder countries dont trust USAID

US confirms it made 'Cuban Twitter'

excerpts below
Quote:
The White House has confirmed that a US government aid agency was behind a text-message service that was allegedly designed to foment unrest in Cuba. The US reportedly hid its links to the network through shell firms and by routing messages via other countries. The scheme, first reported by the Associated Press news agency, was operated by the US Agency for International Development (USAID)

It is a federal international development organisation run under the aegis of the Department of State. The report could undermine USAID's longstanding claim that it does not take covert action in the countries where it operates aid programmes.

good for him. That being said, tooting one's own horn for one's charitable giving is poor form, IMO.

It reminded me of something:

Quote:
As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. "I tell you the truth," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on."

Your observation is correct. I don't think anyone but his shrink really knows why though.

Sad to say it, but I think somewhere along the way Dave had a very bad experience with religion in some way. He certainly seems to hate it in a deeply rooted way.

I'm not sure why anyone thinks I've had a bad experience with religion. I just think it's an insult to reason and intellect. The main reason I discuss it here is it's inappropriate for me to discuss in most cases in real life with people so this is my outlet.

That's pretty much it. I feel very strongly about the issue especially when it's used with politics, it's a subject I love discussing and unfortunately you all are my sounding board. Occasionally, I just like trying different arguments on here to see if they do have any effect and to test them so to speak.

It reminded me of something:

It's not me tooting my horn. I made one mention of it without going in to detail, and was challenged about its veracity. I'm not going to back down from a true statement. I've done shitty things in the past too, so I'm not applying for sainthood. Just not going to back down from a true statement. I've done things for CP and several CP members and you won't find a single post bragging about it.

If you hadn't done shitty things in the past would you apply for sainthood despite your feelings about religion?

oh. ok. I guess I saw it differently since I remember seeing multiple posts about how you give more than churches to the poor in another thread.

Slight topic swerve. Since someone mentioned the state department (and I dont want to create a new thread)....

$6 Billion Goes Missing at State Department

The department responded and said it concurred with the recommendations to address the “vulnerability” in its contracting process.

The weirdest thing was the missing $12 billion in cash that disappeared in Iraq. Pallet loads of cash just gone.
