Global Warming is Good???

Here's a cool read regarding a possible upside to global warming.

http://www.physicscentral.com/explore/action/iceage.cfm

It still doesn't bode well for what we're doing to our oceans and there aren't any good arguments for pumping toxic shit into the air (we still have to breath). But it's still nice to see a level headed article on the subject that isn't pure doom/gloom. It also includes some historical data that is left out of most doom/gloom reports.

I do think this side of the situation has been for the most part ignored, other than by people like me usually just to be a little contrarian.. The argument can easily be made that generally speaking the warmer periods have been better than the colder ones for most living things. I really do think more attention should be paid to toxic pollution part of manufacturing and farming than warming.

Am I missing something? Where does it talk about any upside other than the first sentence?

That's the only upside. An ice age in theroy could be a lot ****ing worse for us than a warm age. Of course the warm age comes with a great deal of terribleness too, toxic air, toxic oceans and raising sea levels.

Of we could have a mile of ice sitting on the upper half of the US and most of Europe.

Which pops the question into my head of what happens to sea levels during an ice age? Does Florida double in size?

This is new data. 7 Foot rise. Al Gore is on it. I suspect we cannot reverse the trend. If the oceans will rise that much and we have an idea of when, clearly the momentum of change will be unstoppable.

We are IMO very likely to have excessive pollutants in an ice age or a warming period. We dump a lot of crap into the environment. It might be even worse in a cold period due to all the energy expended to keep us humans warm.

Climatologist seem to think a warming trend would change weather patterns which sounds logical. There are certainly many places that once received far more rainfall that later became arid and Iím sure the reverse. Trying to predict what will change and where with all variables on a test subject the size of the Earth is of course problematic.

The hysteria really rubs a great many people ( myself included) the wrong way. Every time we have a natural bad occurrence like Tornados, Hurricanes, Earthquakes, mudslides, abnormally hot stretches, abnormally cold Stretches somebody ( usually a politician or media member) blames it on Climate change. One big Storm is blamed on CC but something like the number of Hurricanes and tornadoes being below average for a year or stretch of years oddly is too small a sample size.

More traction might be gained in greener practices with a simpler message. Just making this up but Iím sure we can easily show the level of several kind of pollutants are building up in our oceans. Iím sure these are harmful to single cell plankton or whatever that is the base of the food chain. If the level of pollutants continue to rise the plankton will no longer be able to survive setting off a chain reaction that will cause a mass extinction that will domino up the food chain possibly causing our planet uninhabitable for humans. Something like that.

Sarcasm detected. With respect to climate momentum:

What is the half-life of CO2 in the atmosphere?

What is the relationship between CO2 concentration and climate forcing?

If you understand the answers to the above two questions, the difficulty of changing momentum isn't so easy to scoff at.
