Hillary fought to keep Boko Haram off terror list

I thought this news was so shocking, horrifying and deplorable that it deserves its own thread. Hillary is responsible for the kidnapped school girls.

Hillary fought to keep Boko Haram off terror list

Hillary Clinton’s public outrage at the abduction of hundreds of schoolgirls by a Islamist Nigerian rebel group ignores the role the 2016 Democratic frontrunner had in preventing the group from being designated as a terrorist organization. From The Daily Beast: “The State Department under Hillary Clinton fought hard against placing the al Qaeda-linked militant group Boko Haram on its official list of foreign terrorist organizations for two years. And now, lawmakers and former U.S. officials are saying that the decision may have hurt the American government’s ability to confront the Nigerian group that shocked the world by abducting hundreds of innocent girls….On Wednesday, Clinton said that the abduction of the girls by Boko Haram was ‘abominable, it’s criminal, it’s an act of terrorism and it really merits the fullest response possible, first and foremost from the government of Nigeria.’ Clinton said that as Secretary of State she had numerous meetings with Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and had urged the Nigerian government to do more on counterterrorism. What Clinton didn’t mention was that her own State Department refused to place Boko Haram on the list of foreign terrorist organizations in 2011, after the group bombed the UN headquarters in Abuja. The refusal came despite the urging of the Justice Department, the FBI, the CIA, and over a dozen Senators and Congressmen.”

Brings a couple of questions to mind...

What would she, or anyone, have to gain by keeping him off this list? (I can think of a couple of reasons, both sleazy and legit, but I'm no expert, that's why I ask)

Whether he's on the list or off the list, what is the difference in our abilities to detain/stop him?

Shrug. Maybe if he were on the list we'd have better tabs on his whereabouts and would have more information to track him down? I don't know.

BUT

That's not the true issue at hand here.

The Real issue here is that Hillary is a dumbass and because She didn't put these guys on the list, a few hundred girls have been sold off for a few bucks AND the Liberal Left Wing Media has kept this under wraps to protect a potential POTUS nominee. Hillary Clinton could've prevented this from occuring, but the Dems only care about pop culture and don't pay attention to humanitarian issues.

Amirite?

Why should we believe that being on a list would have prevented this from occurring?

I'm guessing it's because if they are a known terrorist group, we could officially watch them, keep tabs on them, spy on them, **** with them. I guess. Since they were not on the list, we ignored them. Then 200+ girls are kidnapped and sold in to sex slavery. Also, the CIA and other organizations urged that they be put on the list, and if the article is accurate, the State Department flat out refused to do so. There must have been a reason these groups wanted them on the list, and yet another reason why the SD didn't want them on it.

I'm guessing though, seriously I don't know. Need more details.

That both makes sense, and it doesn't. I guess with limited resources, there's an issue with prioritizing these groups. With that prioritization, some really bad people may fall just below some really badder ones. I have no idea if that's what happened here, or if this group also supplies Secretary Clinton with fine mahogany office furniture.

I find this pretty hard to believe. Boko Haram has no other purpose but to conduct terrorism. They aren't a muslim sect or part of the muslim community in general, they are a paramilitary organization. They've had gun battles with the government there and blown up public buildings. It seems hard to believe that State would stick their necks out for this group for some reason.

In theory these are great reasons why they go on the list but in practice it doesn't really work because of Nigeria. Being on the list (or not) doesn't magically change the situation. It expands the set of tools we can use to deal with them... but unfortunately most of those expanded powers are moot in this case because Nigeria is so screwed up.

I'm not here to defend Hillary but I just don't think pursuing this angle will bear much if any fruit. In hindsight they should have been on the list. Using an equal amount of hindsight, it likely wouldn't have made any difference.

The government could easily do all those things regardless of whether the name showed up on any list, if they really wanted to. And despite that, the US government still designated Boko Haram as a terrorist organization in November 2013. So they were on the list when these girls were abducted.

This is why I started out saying this is complicated. In many other situations it absolutely would make a difference... just not in Nigeria. It's like the whole Kony nonsense a few years back, there is no "good guy" to get behind and support. Nigeria's government is completely corrupt and a massive human rights violator. They aren't someone we could have worked with just because we put one of their enemies on the terrorist list.
