Henry "The Nose" Waxman wants hearing on Redskins

Yes you heard it right, the rep from suzzer's own district wants a hearing on the redskins name which implies racism to the native Americans.
Its been told that some find it so offensive it causes them to drink booze everyday.

Henry Waxman wants hearing on Redskins

California Rep. Henry Waxman is the latest lawmaker to weigh in on the controversy surrounding the NFL’s Washington Redskins team name, asking to bring the issue before a House panel hearing.

“Offensive remarks by Donald Sterling, the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association, have raised public awareness of racism in sports,” Waxman, the ranking Democrat on the House Committee on Energy Commerce, wrote in a letter Friday to Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.)

“In the case of the Washington football team, the offensive conduct is public, not private. But it is being condoned and defended by National Football League,” Waxman wrote.

Waxman, who slams the Redskins name as derogatory and offensive, calls for a hearing by the House Energy and Commerce committee, which he said has “primary jurisdiction over professional sports.”

Echoing remarks made by last week Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Waxman criticized both NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Redskins owner Dan Snyder for not changing the name.

“[The committee] could play a constructive role in challenging racism by asking Mr. Snyder and Mr. Goodell to explain in a public hearing how their actions are consistent with the public interest,”

White folks seem very sensitive about red skin name. Outrage is excellent on this topic.

Well, how many ways are there really to tell "Indian Nation" to all but **** off and stop whining?

I'm pretty sure they'd say they'd being ignored into oblivion if we weren't talking about them and how they feel ****ed-over again.

It might be nice if the whiney ones would just joint the real world.

How about this, with all their Casino winnings, who not buy the team (make an offer the current owner can't refuse) and change the name of the team.

To you and Aries:

One version of the origin of "redskin" comes from certain indians using red to paint on their skins. It wasn't widely applied even earlier in Colonial times. The more common term was indian relying on the error Columbus made. I think this is more plausible and historically accurate reason for the term redskin. Obviously they're a more tawny color than red. This was covered in my last link.

Yes, I know. By about the 19th century, though, they were referred to as 'red', just as white and black people were referred to as white and black, even though they're really white and black.

Between then and now, there was plenty of time for the stigma to grow, which it did.

Are you seriously offended by this? As another poster pointed out is the Yankees offensive? How about the fighting Irish? I am sure there are pacifist Irish who are deeply offended. This victim mentality nonsense is beyond silly~
