Henry "The Nose" Waxman wants hearing on Redskins

Yes you heard it right, the rep from suzzer's own district wants a hearing on the redskins name which implies racism to the native Americans.
Its been told that some find it so offensive it causes them to drink booze everyday.

Henry Waxman wants hearing on Redskins

California Rep. Henry Waxman is the latest lawmaker to weigh in on the controversy surrounding the NFL’s Washington Redskins team name, asking to bring the issue before a House panel hearing.

“Offensive remarks by Donald Sterling, the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association, have raised public awareness of racism in sports,” Waxman, the ranking Democrat on the House Committee on Energy Commerce, wrote in a letter Friday to Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.)

“In the case of the Washington football team, the offensive conduct is public, not private. But it is being condoned and defended by National Football League,” Waxman wrote.

Waxman, who slams the Redskins name as derogatory and offensive, calls for a hearing by the House Energy and Commerce committee, which he said has “primary jurisdiction over professional sports.”

Echoing remarks made by last week Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Waxman criticized both NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Redskins owner Dan Snyder for not changing the name.

“[The committee] could play a constructive role in challenging racism by asking Mr. Snyder and Mr. Goodell to explain in a public hearing how their actions are consistent with the public interest,”

Well, if there ever comes a time when New Englanders or Irish people are ever systematically beaten, robbed, evicted, abused, death-marched or outright slaughtered, and generally marginalized for centuries at a time, reducing them to second-class status and having their culture nearly stripped clean, only to have a professional sports team named for the racist, derogatory, and demeaning term their oppressors called them as they committed these generations of offenses while their cries go either ignored or ridiculed while some suit keeps making uncountable cash off of the daily and casual degradation of their culture, then yeah, we should look at Yankees and Irish as well.

Until then, it's not victim mentality. It's just doing the right thing, and not putting the interests of a sports team over an entire people.

It's actually purely a matter of opinion as to what is good or bad.

Yep! And the number of people these days whose opinion is that it is bad is growing, and quickly.

Doesn't matter if they don't own the place. But it's progressives that don't like it. Many progressives are not tolerant of other people's opinions. Group think doesn't make it right or wrong though.

I just checked a poll, 71% do not favor changing the name "Redskins."

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...lling/4297665/

Progressives will have to continue to beat the drum via the media enough to create enough guilt. Some change that has happened is the result of this imo.

Only 18% want to see it changed per that poll with 11% unsure.

Just because you use a shit ton of inflammatory adjectives doesn't mean they apply.

I pointed out why in detail above.

References to blackness are automatically degrading due to the biblical interpretation of the mark of Cain. There is no reason to be embarrassed for having red skin.

To be fair, "term", "oppressors", and "degradation" are nouns.

To be obvious, I know that. I was highlighting the entire phrases for comprehensibility. Further it has nothing to do with the point.

Annenberg Foundation is pushing this line of thinking about the Redskin name. It's on progressive websites. They don't like the polls on the matter because per them Native Americans want it changed. They should buy the team and change the name. Let's see how long the team remains solvent when they change the name.
