Obama said something about a red line, so nothing will happen

You don't understand the perverse incentive. The goal of the bureaucracy is to expand the bureaucracy and get a bigger budget.

In government, nothing does both like failure. I am willing to be that the VA will get a bigger budget and probably a new department focused on making sure the VA delivers quality care.

In other words, in the perverse incentive environment of government bureaucracy, Shinseki is successful.

Cool, so again you're on record in your mind as admitting Obama is POS. You're coming around.

So what about the original question. Bush has nothing to do with the VA. Has Obama gotten this thing in order? What has he done?

well i guess in the sense that the government pays for the health care but it is delivered by va employees which sets it apart from medicare, medicaid, and private insurance (obamacare or not)...

so, to me, it is socialized medicine because the government both pays for and delivers the services (a lot like canada)...

Quick question for you. Who would you say has better health care the US or Canada?

The problem was there under Bush, no question. Obama was warned about the problem when he was sworn in. His answer was to just throw money at the VA. The takeaway here is government involvement in basic services is not better than what the free market might make available.

Understood, but a single payer health care system will be no different. Politicians and their fundraisers will have more say than a free market health care system.

depends on what criteria you're using...

in terms of cutting edge medical technology and innovation, definitely the us...

in terms of providing health care to the entire population, particularly the poor, and in terms of outcome vs. costs, it's canada...
