If it's an actual extension, it's a 6 year deal. You screaming that it's not is never going to change that.

Yes. It means that you're trying to pretend it's not a 6 year deal by playing up the already existing contract year.

It's the guaranteed money.

If he did something stupid off the field, regressed, had a string of injuries they're tied to that money. Kap does not play safe - he wants to get every yard he can.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Kraepernick chokes in the big games and he's extremely one-dimensional, athleticism-dependent, and can't read a defense. On what planet is he worth the biggest amount of guaranteed money of any quarterback in the league?

Everyone blames it on the "lack of WRs" but that was far from the case. His issues as a passer were most clearly illustrated by the ill-advised decision and throw that he made on his final play in the NFC Championship game last year. He's a one-read guy who can't see the whole field and leaves wide open receivers hanging all of the time. Absolutely no anticipation in the passing game.

I've often thought the NFL would be wise to add an additional tag for a player who is the true "franchise" player. It can only be applied one time to a player that was selected by the team in question to pretty much keep a fan favorite in his "home" city.

The trick is determining how the kid gets paid. I think a "franchise star" tag should enable a team to stick a player, such as Jamaal Charles, on the roster with a cap hit that's only the average salary for that position but the big money is paid totally from the league itself and for a set amount of money and time that applies to anyone with the "star" designation. Or, the "star" tag enables a team to pretty much write off all or most of the cap hit for the player but be negotiated with a deal from the club for however much they want to spend.

The problem with the Flacco deal was that it took place during a flat cap period. The cap is no longer expected to be flat.

He wins games and keeps his team competitive. ultimately that matters more than stats.

Outside of a Manning or Brady, who are they going to get who can perform better?
