OUTRAGE! Cop fired for refusing to be gay

Cop refuses to work at gay pride parade in Utah
Associated Press 4 hours ago

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Salt Lake City police officer has been placed on leave after refusing an assignment to work at a gay pride parade.

The officer was among about 30 officers assigned to provide traffic control and security for the annual Utah Pride Parade on Sunday in Salt Lake City, said department spokeswoman Lara Jones.

"We don't tolerate bias and bigotry in the department, and assignments are assignments ... To allow personal opinion to enter into whether an officer will take a post is not something that can be tolerated in a police department," Jones told KSL.

She declined comment on the officer's reason for refusing the assignment.

The officer, whose name was not released, is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.

Utah Pride Center spokeswoman Deann Armes said her group is pleased with the department's stance and thinks officers should undergo sensitivity training before joining the force.

"Our goal is to make sure that police training and certification includes policies and oaths to ensure that all officers are committed to providing equal service and treatment of all citizens. Clearly, bigotry is alive and well," Armes said in a statement.

Police Chief Chris Burbank has marched in the parade in the past, and three deputy chiefs will march Sunday while he is out of town.

The department also will have a community outreach and recruitment booth at the pride festival, Jones said, and participates in a standing committee to address public safety issues relating to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender residents.

"We have gay men and women that serve in the police department," Jones told The Salt Lake Tribune. "One officer's situation does not reflect the vast majority of officers that work in the Salt Lake City Police Department and certainly not Chief Burbank's."

Gay people exist. You don't have to like them. But yeah, you might have to be around them on occasion, and in certain jobs, you may have duties that require being near them. Tough shit.
I never claimed to be the "tolerant" one...I'm a conservative...y'know, batshit crazy with a belief system and standards and all that crazy crap.

And yes, they do exist...but you're wrong...we DO have to like them or receive the slings and arrows of the righteous left. Just watch.

From the second reply where you were talking about what I posted to another poster you said I called him a bigot because he refused the job assignment.

I do feel he is a bigot, however. Due to his beliefs and religion, which was the basis for this thread.

You don't have to like them or anyone else. You can THINK whatever you want. But if you feel the need to open your mouth about it then, then yeah, other people get to say what they want about what you said. It has always been that way.

And it's not just the "righteous left"--acceptance, or at least tolerance, of gays has happened a lot faster than I ever thought it would. Most people just don't care anymore.

Um, the gays pay taxes which go to public services like police and fire...just like everybody. This cop doesn't understand the spirit of "To protect and to serve". As far as why he refused to go...no, I guess we don't know, but seriously, why else make some big gesture not to go, unless you are trying to prove a point? That you don't agree with the gay agenda. Hey, I don't either, but I don't attend their rallies. As a police officer, you don't have that luxury. Comes with the job. Do your friggin' job.

At least being fat is an actual choice, for most people anyway. A very rare few exceptions are actually based in genetics. Though I suppose children of fat parents don't have much choice in the matter. I often wonder if teaching children poor eating habits along with not teaching them to be active is a form of child abuse. (Not advocating fat kids be taken from their parents)

So coincident? I think not, but it was not explicitly stated why he didn't go - just that he didn't so I can't say.

But as far as an agenda - there is none other than to gain equal rights as heterosexuals. What agenda are you referring to, though?
This isn't about equal rights. It's about equal acceptance.

Huh? Did I miss the part where it said he refused the duty because of religious beliefs? I think you must be stereotyping because he lives in Utah? Mormon? Careful...you don't want to be labeled a Mormo-phobe.

True but what's entertaining about the left is that they not only want to say you're wrong, the want to say you're mentally ill...impossible to logic with because you've lost your mind. For example; disagree on Global Warming = "Deniers", disagree on the gay movement; "Homophobe", just about any other topic "RWNJ". Sound familiar?

So you were remarking on other details of the story the rest of us weren't referencing? Not just what was in the OP? Sorry, you can hardly say I mischaracterized anything you said, but then again, I don't really care. It's not like I excoriated you.

No, it doesn't sound familiar. Despite rumors otherwise, I don't think everyone who disagrees with me is a NJ. Depends on why you disagree.
I'm not even sure what you mean by "the gay movement" (easy joke there if anyone's interested). But if someone says that gay marriage is a threat to traditional marriage, that person is a RWNJ.

My and one of my buddies actually joke all the time about getting in a fiegned gay marriage. We have all the benefits of being gay and married when it comes to discrimination and taxes, interchangeable waredrobes, get to fart, burp, eat pizza and play video games till 4am then when we get in a fight we get to roundhouse kick and punch each other until someone can pull off a rear naked choke and finish it and it's over at no fault.

Say we're swingers and have girls over all the time. No laws against that.

If I were to ever get divorced a faux gay marriage is my next move.
