Considering he was claiming that extremists want to create an Islamist state, that's not exactly a leap he's taking.

Did you see the reaction to his prediction? Watch it again. You must have missed that part.

I can't really blame those people. I suppose they just all bought Obama's declaration of victory, whichever time he did it.

Exactly. People called him crazy, unstable, what have you. Now that it turns out he was right...the narrative is "Duh, well gee, it's not like everybody didn't think that was going on".

The same happened with the economy. Anyone who suggested that we were in a housing bubble was openly mocked, and then once the market came tumbling, suddenly everyone had saw it coming all along.

I recall in 2007, due to a big enrollment drop where I taught and other things, saying that an economic slowdown was emerging. Patty said it wasn't true. Then 2008 came....it was emerging during that whole time.

Had to have a govt number to rely on--not any observations of the market.

Perhaps I'm misremembering, but wasn't there a little more to his predictions than just "muslim extremists want to create an extreme muslim state?"

Yeah, someone who talks all day for years, forecasting disaster much of the time, correctly predicting Middle East violence once, and then being praised when it happens, even though he got the nation completely wrong, is not exactly thunderous news.
