JOE SCARBOROUGH: DRAFT MITT ROMNEY IN 2016!

JOE SCARBOROUGH: DRAFT MITT ROMNEY IN 2016!

Joe Scarborough, the MSNBC host who has transformed into one of his generation's most preeminent Rockefeller Republicans, believes Mitt Romney should run for president again in 2016.

Speaking to about 300 guests at "a luxury resort in the Rocky Mountains" with other potential GOP presidential hopefuls like Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Scarborough reportedly urged the establishment donors and insiders to being a “Draft Romney” movement.

“This is the only person that can fill the stage,” Scarborough said at a summit hosted by Romney, according to a Washington Post report.

Scarborough and other attendees may not have realized that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) was ousted last week because he was seen as emblematic of an ossifying Republican Party that favored cronyism over free markets. That was why Romney could never appeal to blue-collar American workers and similarly situated minorities in 2012 who dislike the GOP when it is perceived as being in bed with big-business crony capitalists seeking corporate-welfare handouts.

Yet, which is why it was baffling that Mitt Romney decided to shun his voters instead of trying to appeal to them.

I voted for Gary Johnson, myself.

Ron Paul voters were never GOP voters. They're contrarians by nature. It's Paul or nothing. That's what happens when you deal with absolutists.

There's no point appealing to libertarians (1% of voters) over the religious right (20%). Math is a cool thing

I hate to sound like a broken record by repeating it but it is true; I disagree.

Again I point to what Scott Walker has done, and is doing, in Wisconson. If a pro life conservative can win in that democratic stronghold, and hold off the unions in a recall election there, and enjoy success with his agenda there, than it can most certainly be done on the national level.

I want to believe you, RH. I really do. I'll admit that I'm emotionally drained at the moment, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

You're wrong. All I was looking for was some conciliatory gesture - anything. Something that said, "we see you and recognize that we need you - let's move forward together." That's all a solid amount of Paul supporters wanted by the time the convention rolled around. We had a lot invested in the Republican primary process, and none of us liked the idea of another four years of Obama.

Instead, we got absolutely shut out of the conference and told that they could take on Obama without us. And like with McCain, they tried and lost.

Like I said, absolutists.

Look at it this way: if you are right and the lack of Paul followers alone cost Romney the election, you guys are directly responsible for all the Obama crap we are dealing with now.

How does that make you feel?

Understood. I would also add though, that what better time for a true conservative to run than now? Now we are in a time where the danger of liberal policies. Is actually being lived. If you do not use this time to teach and draw distinctions you are missing a HUGE opportunity. People are dissatisfied, they are hurting financially, and hey are angry. NOW is the time to quit listening to the opposition and give people an actual choice.

If we do that and still lose, THEN I will concede the conservative movement is lost.

Yeah, if you're looking at it that narrowly, you'd be right. But conservative democrats don't identify as libertarians - they identify as "fiscally conservative and socially liberal" - which is just a way of saying "libertarian."

Ronald Reagan had the right answer - appeal to the religious sect, as well as the libertarians, and you'll draw a huge chunk of blue dog Democrats.

As far as social conservatives go, they've been marginalized by the primary calendar. The establishment really screwed them over by putting so much space in between Iowa and South Carolina. A Huckabee or a Santorum hardly have a fighting chance anymore.

The Republicans and Democrats are really doing a knock-out job.

Perhaps "Independent" would be a better description.

If asked which group should be considered the most self absorbed in our country at this time, the Hollywood elite or the Ron Paul nuts, I'm not sure I could say for certain.

I have no apologies. It's not my job to vote for candidates that shun me. It's the candidates job to appeal to me.

My vote matters to me. I'm not going to waste it on someone who doesn't care to make the slightest gesture. I'll happily vote for Gary Johnson this time around if there is no Republican candidate making any effort to win my vote.
