JOE SCARBOROUGH: DRAFT MITT ROMNEY IN 2016!

JOE SCARBOROUGH: DRAFT MITT ROMNEY IN 2016!

Joe Scarborough, the MSNBC host who has transformed into one of his generation's most preeminent Rockefeller Republicans, believes Mitt Romney should run for president again in 2016.

Speaking to about 300 guests at "a luxury resort in the Rocky Mountains" with other potential GOP presidential hopefuls like Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Scarborough reportedly urged the establishment donors and insiders to being a “Draft Romney” movement.

“This is the only person that can fill the stage,” Scarborough said at a summit hosted by Romney, according to a Washington Post report.

Scarborough and other attendees may not have realized that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) was ousted last week because he was seen as emblematic of an ossifying Republican Party that favored cronyism over free markets. That was why Romney could never appeal to blue-collar American workers and similarly situated minorities in 2012 who dislike the GOP when it is perceived as being in bed with big-business crony capitalists seeking corporate-welfare handouts.

Technically, yes, stepping back is considered an action. However, when you talk to the vast majority they equate government action as being involved in some way. That is the angle from which I was approaching the subject. My apologies for not being more clear.

We do disagree on whether a completely laissez-faire system would solve the problem though. Or, I should say, a completely laissez-faire system would solve the problem of skyrocketing costs, but it would lead to insurmountable practical political problem of people dying in the streets. An alternative that concedes to our national decision that we're going to have a safety net while minimizing government interference and resisting the political pressure to gold-plate the safety net is what conservatives need to support, IMO.
Who said any thing about laissez-faire? I am in favor of a predominantly free market solution with whatever safety nets required provided for at the state and local levels (where most issues should be handled). It is the federal government in the mix that I whole heartedly object to. It is easier to keep your state and local governments in check than it is the federal government. And it is even easier to keep the private sector in check. They do not provide a service of a quality that you desire and a price that you can afford you go else where. You still can't find it, you do the good old fashioned American thing and create a business that fills a void.

The only action required of the Feds as it pertains to the medical industry is to get the hell out of it. I have yet to come across anyone who has been able to give me a convincing argument to the contrary.

On the surface they do. Scratch the surface, you'll find more than a few are still statist at heart. It starts there but there's more to libertarianism--even if you consider the different kinds. 'Cause there are left libertarians.

OK, you got me. 20 years ago, Romney called himself progressive. People never change. Ronald Reagan voted for FDR so he supports New Deal style big government. Ron Paul produced a racially charged, if not racist, newsletter (not to mention his takes on Jews and gays). Al Gore is pro life. And you're a liberal democrat.

Just ignore the thousands of public statements he's made more recently where he describes himself quite differently. He certainly didn't claim to be a progressive in either of the Presidential campaigns he ran.

C'mon...so he was "forced" to address issues that he would rather not address? Not sure how that is different from every politician ever.

Basically, the RWNJs "forced" him to act like a RWNJ and when he later tried to act like he wasn't a RWNJ, it was too late to salvage the moderates and independents.

He's in control of what he says. Maybe the Rs shouldn't try so hard to pander to the RWNJs next time.

Given how much the base revolted against him because he was so quiet on social conservative issues, it was clear that he nor any Republican candidate has as much control over what they say as they'd like. Unlike many previous Republican candidates, I don't really think Romney wanted to take a stance on it whereas most candidates used social issues as a huge part of their platform. So that makes him different and it unfortunately shows the reason why we will always struggle to put a moderate on either ticket. Sadly.

There's nothing to spin Buc. Romney isn't a Ted Cruz and he never said he was. And he was elected Governor of Massachusetts which you never address. The state has something like 20% registered Republicans. You have to appeal to moderates in that state to even have a prayer of winning.

I already know that being from the state. But none of that is my point. It was posted to show he said he was a Progressive --which he is. That's what pat was denying, that I expected him to spin.

Oh, and there used to be conservative Democrats there. Don't forget they had a libertarian leaning governor even in the 90's.

Our federal govt, and the Republican leadership, is firmly in control of Progressives.

Our govt is in the hands of whoever the voters put there. No sense blaming a politician. Blame the voters. Obama didn't just magically appear in the Oval Office.
