SCOTUS Did Not State That Religious Freedom Extends to Religious Freedom Broadly Defined. The Supreme Court states in the case syllabus, “This decision concerns only the contraceptive mandate and should not be understood to hold that all insurance-coverage mandates, e.g., for vaccinations or blood transfusions, must necessarily fall if they conflict with an employer’s religious beliefs. Nor does it provide a shield for employers who might cloak illegal discrimination as a religious practice.” Presumably, that means that religious employers who don’t wish to cover homosexual spouses, believing that doing so subsidizes sin, would be barred from asserting such complaints.

The Constitution doesn't say anything about the right to free contraceptives, but it does say some things about the right to freedom of religion.

“If the Supreme Court will not protect women’s access to health care, then Democrats will,” Reid said in a statement. “We will continue to fight to preserve women’s access to contraceptive coverage and keep bosses out of the examination room.”

Ironically, It's the government that is pushing companies into the exam room. The PRIVATE companies want no part of it.

I didn't realize Hobby Lobby's execs went in the examination room with their female employees.

Maybe they can just pool their money and pay for it themselves.

I think this is different. Corporations don't have to make these decisions immediately or face an impending deployment to Vietnam.

They have legions of tax attorneys who are expert at crafting complicated defenses and hurdles and can set these things in motion to occur a year or two down the road.

They don't have to establish that they are Christian Scientists NOW, but that later, at the time of applying for exemption, they have developed sincere religious beliefs. They just need to privatize, and then hold some sham ceremonies occasionally, and then, they qualify.

Yeah, I saw that language as well, but don't know what legal principle or even rule of logic they are using to differentiate those problems from this one with Hobby Lobby.

I'm not sure why companies are being forced by government to provide insurance in the first place.

It annoys me to no end that corporations are in the middle of the entire healthcare arena. I wish I had a better fix for that than socialized medicine, which I'm not exactly eager to embrace.

The thing I hate about the supreme court is that there should never be a divide. It's either the a violation of the constitution or its not. There should be no divide based on what side of the isle you or on. On split decisions, it devalues the faith that people have in the process IMO.
