Skme good from the Wookies Forced Food program

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. – First Lady Michelle Obama’s healthy school lunch menu is finally getting some love from a group of young eaters.

Some 3,000 pigs at My Blue Heaven Farm in Rhode Island have been dining on students’ lunch leftovers from two nearby school systems, according to WoonsocketCall.com.

The pigs are enjoying “half-eaten tuna sandwiches and other food scraps students discard during their lunch periods” as part of a new recycling program established by the town of Cumberland, the news site reports.

The recycling program has been so successful that officials are planning to expand it in the fall.

The school food that’s being “repurposed” as pig feed is described as “nutritious,” and it certainly is.

What an oxymoron using funding (from forcible taxation) and voluntary in the same sentence.

I don't really see how offering healthier meals in school is a bad thing.

But whatever.

It's not, by itself alone. If the kids won't eat it then what good is it?

I just don't know it's exactly "offer" when it's switched-out with no other choices. That's saying—this is what you're getting.

...what? That's the kids fault. Just cause some won't eat it doesn't mean it shouldn't be offered. That's like saying since some kids don't do homework, teachers shouldn't offer it.

Don't you think, that individuals have to each be personally motivated, one-by-one to change their eating habits first?

I mean even an alcoholic has to really get to the point of wanting to change his habits or to get better. It can be automatically made to happen.

Michelle's goals would be better served to get congress to stop subsidizing high fructose corn syrup if she wants to reduce obesity.

Typical progressive argument. My point is that it doesn't fit into the category of an offer. If you want whole sale change like this, expect a reaction against embedded habits.

This is what happens when there's no market in the school lunch program.

I didn't know homework was an "offer' either. You get it assigned. You have to do it. You either do it or get graded on that premise including failing.

They're ****ing kids.

They're not going to chose a pack of apples if there's an ice cream sandwich available. As a parent, you know this. They're not "personally motivated" to keep check of their diet. So why is it wrong for a school to supply them with a healthy meal?

So, the food is still being tossed out unlike before this program.

Some are teens.

Okay, so they're still going hungry—including the teens.

Continue to waste taxpayers money by having the food thrown out or close down the cafeterias.

You might try reading the thread--but with comprehension.

Individuals. Not kids. They don't get free choices on everything.

If it was a good program and it actually involved the kids in helping make the alternative selections maybe it would work. As it is it is top down do as you are told and no one gives a rats ass that its a ****ing colossal failure. The kids are not better off as a result of gruel being dictated by the feds.
